SCOPE:

Are you an experienced IT professional who enjoys turning complex business needs into clear, sustainable technology solutions? As an IT Architect 1 with the City of Surrey, you will help shape our enterprise applications, citizen-facing digital services, and cloud infrastructure, contributing to a smart, connected, and inclusive city. In this role, you will collaborate across departments to design solutions that are secure, resilient, and ready for the future. This role is an intermediate architecture position that independently delivers solutions within defined areas and sub-projects, working in alignment with and receiving guidance from senior architects when required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the development of the City's IT strategy, long-term technology roadmap, and tactical plans for enterprise systems.
  • Architect corporate enterprise applications and citizen-facing services, cloud and network / security infrastructure, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and aligned with City standards.
  • Participate in setting corporate technology direction and developing architecture and technology standards.
  • Research, evaluate, and pilot innovative technologies that can improve service delivery and community impact.
  • Develop architectural designs to modify, integrate, or maintain complex enterprise solutions, considering capacity, performance, and user experience.
  • Act as a consultant to internal clients, providing detailed advice on technical solutions and changes to business methods and processes.
  • Lead small teams as needed, providing direction, coaching, and design guidance and quality input on solution design and delivery.
  • Assist and mentor other IT staff, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Contributing to the development the City's architecture repository, including standards, guidelines, and reference architectures
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree in a related field from a recognized institution plus three (3) years of related experience, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of architecture frameworks and current IT technologies.
  • Knowledge of IT security considerations within solution and enterprise architecture.
  • Knowledge in one or more architecture domains (e.g., applications, technology, data).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, vendors, and colleagues.
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in a deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to assess the applicability of new technologies to meet current and future business needs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to anticipate issues, evaluate options, and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a customer service orientation and professional judgement.
