Course Information
An overview of teaching and learning in the English Language Arts for the elementary school grades with attention to speaking, listening, reading, writing, viewing, and representing. Course content focuses on appropriate pedagogies, the design and implementation of language arts curricula, and on critical issues and research in these areas.
The Faculty of Education invites applications for a Limited Duties Instructor to teach Curriculum and Pedagogy in Elementary Language Arts – PJI as part of the B.Ed. program.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.
Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.
Qualifications
Qualtifications (Minimum Required)
- Master’s degree in language and/or literacy curriculum, or a related area.
- Demonstrated expertise in language arts pedagogy and curriculum, including reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing, and representing across a variety of media.
- Demonstrated expertise in knowing and using children and young adult materials (e.g., children’s literature) in curriculum and pedagogy.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in teaching English Language Arts at the Primary, Junior, or Intermediate level, with a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Demonstrated record of effective teaching performance in teacher education or professional learning contexts in related content.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario Language Curriculum (Grades 1–8, 2023) and the Kindergarten Curriculum (2026).
- Demonstrated knowledge of historic and contemporary research in language and literacy curriculum and teacher education research and the conversations in the field.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of facilitating critical inquiry into current issues in language and literacy curriculum, including, pedagogies and curriculum relative to post-digital literacies, culturally responsive and relevant pedagogy (including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit perspectives), critical literacy, and multilingual literacies.
Preferred Qualifications / Assets:
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in language and literacy curriculum or a related area.
- Eligible for Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification.
- Evidence of research in language and literacy curriculum.
