Job Title: Health and Safety Coordinator (Early Career or Entry Level) Location: 100 Queensway West, Mississauga, ON Position Type: Hourly Contract (18-Month Fixed Term, with potential extension up to 24 months) Compensation: $29.00 - $32.00 per hour ($58,240 – $66,560 per year equivalent) Experience Level: Early Career or Entry-Level (0 – 2 years of experience) Position Summary The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the health and safety program on an active construction site by promoting safe work practices, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a strong safety culture. Working closely with project teams, supervisors, and workers, the Safety Coordinator conducts site inspections, assists with hazard identification, supports incident reporting, and helps implement site-specific safety initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career health and safety professional to gain hands-on experience, receive mentorship from experienced industry leaders, and build a strong foundation in construction safety. Key Functions and Responsibilities: ● Site Compliance & Monitoring: Conduct daily site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to ensure all active construction activities adhere to health and safety regulations. ● Personnel Support & Coaching: Monitor safe work practices, verify that proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn consistently, and provide guidance to supervisors and workers on site-specific safety protocols. ● Communication & Engagement: Lead and participate in daily or weekly toolbox talks and safety meetings to maintain high safety awareness across the project. ● Documentation & Reporting: Assist in preparing detailed reports for incident investigations and near-misses, and ensure all safety logs, permits, and records are accurately maintained. ● Culture Advocacy: Support the implementation of site-specific safety plans, encouraging worker engagement and accountability.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements ● Environment: Based full-time on an active construction project site, requiring exposure to outdoor elements and varying weather conditions. ● Requirements: Walking and standing for extended periods on uneven terrain. Appropriate PPE must be worn at all times while on-site. ● Schedule: Occasional extended hours may be required to align with project milestones. Candidate Qualifications This position is specifically designed to welcome those early in their health and safety career who possess a strong foundational knowledge and a passion for the field.
● Education: Post-secondary education (degree, diploma, or certificate) in Occupational Health & Safety or a closely related discipline. ● Experience: 0 to 1 year of practical experience; a strong desire to learn and grow within a fast-paced construction environment is essential. ● Certifications: WHMIS and Working at Heights training are required and will be provided if the candidate does not have them. ● First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
