Position Summary:
Reporting to the Academic Transition Programs Coordinator, the Academic Transition Programs Teaching Assistants (TA2) provide direct support to the students attending the Academic Transition Programs. The TAs are responsible for marking the SSW ACT course assignments, facilitating weekly in-person assignment development sessions, and meeting with students during drop-in hours and one-on-one meetings to provide them with assignment feedback, guidance, and academic advice.

Facilitate weekly in-person assignment development sessions;

Monitor and respond to student emails;
-
Mentor students who have experienced difficulty in University, in groups and one-on-one;

Provide students with feedback, in person and through assignments;
-
Provide guidance and advice to students on on-campus and off-campus supports;
-
Monitor, record, and report on students’ development and progress;
-
Communicate and consult with the Academic Transition Programs Coordinator and Advisors to advise students;

Admin responsibilities such as updating databases, phoning potential students, and tracking students’ progress; and,
-
Other duties as assigned.
You will perform 100% of your tasks on campus.
Position Requirements
Position Requirements:
- Attention to details;
- Willingness to learn;
- Willingness to help academically at-risk students and an understanding of their needs;
- Ability to excise discretion regarding sensitive and confidential matters and materials;
- Experience in teaching, tutoring, working with ESL and/or international students, or as a teaching assistant, would be an asset but is not required.
- Basic computer skills (required): MS Word, and MS Excel.
- Other computer skills (there will be opportunities to acquire these skills at the job, however having some or all these skills prior to getting the job is an asset): Outlook, Zoom, Caspur, and UR Courses.

Physical Demands Pay Grade As Per CUPE 2419 Salary Range As per CUPE 2419 Collective Agreement Status Term Work Hours
Approximately 10-20 hours per week; your work schedule will be built around your academic schedule.
