Career Opportunity

Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? The Bus Maintenance and Shops department is currently seeking Servicepersons (WG4) and Servicepersons – Wheels and Tires (WG 5) to join our team!

These positions involve working a 40-hour work week, with various shifts and various off days, including weekends and Statutory Holidays. You may be required to work out of any bus garage as per business needs.

What You Will Do

For Serviceperson – Wheels and Tires, the incumbents may be assigned to perform any of the following duties below:

  • Changing wheels and performing routine tire maintenance

  • Inspecting tires and rims for visible damage and wear; reporting any defects; deflating damaged tires in accordance with Departmental tire procedures;

  • Inflating and checking tire pressure; rotate wheel position; torquing drive wheel nuts after wheel changes; completing forms related to re-torque procedures.

For Serviceperson and Serviceperson Wheels and Tires:

  • Replacing or performing minor maintenance and repair work on small parts and fixtures not requiring mechanical repair knowledge or skill, i.e. light bulbs, wiper blades, etc.
  • Assisting Repair Mechanics by providing them with unskilled manual help to remove or install units on vehicles, to obtain or replace shop equipment, to run engines, or to remove vehicles and parts.
  • May be required to complete road calls/change-offs for routine problems such as broken windshield wipers, flat tires, unsanitary vehicles, burned-out lights
  • Fuelling, oiling and lubricating non-revenue vehicles; topping-up windshield washer fluids, radiators
  • Preparing, testing and installing anti-freeze solutions; changing air filters in engines.
  • Monitoring fuel and oil tank levels using measuring gauges and equipment.
  • Operating vehicles between shop operations or between Commission properties.
  • Performing routine inspection and minor maintenance/lubrication on shop equipment such as hoists and cleaning equipment.
  • May be required to operate a forklift truck for heavy moving or lifting tasks (e.g. moving engines, tires, wheels
  • Utilizing the VMS system to input or retrieve service information and labour reporting of work related activities.

What Qualifications Do You Bring

  • Require training normally obtained through the partial completion of high school or its equivalent through minor automotive service experience.

  • Must demonstrate some mechanical ability and have an ability to communicate effectively in English as demonstrated by an ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Must hold a valid Ontario Class "G" or higher Driver's License.

  • Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions as demonstrated by an ability to understand and follow published operating/safety rules and regulations.
