The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.
The Opportunity
The Senior Advisor, Enterprise Risk & Performance is responsible for leading delivery of activitiesrelated to the effective execution and management of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) andPerformance Management (PM) programs. The Senior Advisor will lead and/or directly work on keyrisk and performance management transformation initiatives and support enterprise initiatives asthe risk management subject matter expert.
The role’s Performance Management (PM) accountability is to lead the ongoing development,implementation and support the oversight of the PM program to assess the efficiency andeffectiveness with which the IESO executes its corporate strategy and business plan.
What You’ll Do
Advancing Enterprise Risk Maturity
-
Provide leading contributions towards the enhancement of ERM program maturity includingdevelopment and preparation of the risk management annual plan and roadmap
-
Design, build and develop continual enhancements of program materials to further provide ERMeducation, support enterprise-wide skills development and tools that promote consistent,forward-looking, risk practices
-
Work in partnership with key stakeholders, including leaders within business units to enhance thelevel of risk management capability in operational and project risk management
-
Support Enterprise Risk Champions Committee through development of relevant agenda topics,meeting materials, delivering targeted presentations, knowledge sharing and training on risk
-
Design and development of risk management training initiatives for diverse audiences (board andits committees, the executive leadership team, project teams, process owners and business unitstaff).
ERM Program Delivery
-
Collaborate with business partners to obtain regular status updates and proactively leaddiscussions on objective-centric risk identification, assessment, and monitoring
-
Coordinate the compilation of ongoing reports and produce meeting materials for auditcommittee that accurately communicates the organization’s current state of residual risk andmitigation progress status using insightful and creative visualizations
-
Facilitation of the organization’s risk target assessments and suggest new risk targets to alignwith planned mitigations and existing controls
-
Lead annual review of the IESO’s strategic risks with both the business units and the executiveleadership team
-
Perform interpretation of risk management standards, directives, guidance and guidelines
-
Analyze risks to determine risk root cause, impacts, controls and systemic interdependenciesamongst risk attribute data
-
Identification and development of key risk mitigation plan programs and assessing their ability tomitigate to target levels
-
Maintain enterprise risk management corporate policy, procedures and process documents
-
Coordination and management of the work of external contractors executing risk managementrelated services including managing budgets and timelines. This includes, assisting in thedevelopment of procurement documents, statements of work and critically reviewing externalcontractor deliverables.
ERM Reporting
-
Development of all risk related reports including the strategic risk executive dashboard andquarterly mitigation progress updates at a level commensurate with Board-level quality standards

Dissemination and posting of reports to stakeholders
-
Present risk reports to management and staff, explaining key concepts and messages
-
Preparation of specialized in-depth risk reports on key organizational initiatives and emergingtrends identified as areas of focus.

Performance Management (PM)
-
Develop, implement and coordinate the management of the IESO’s Performance Managementprogram
-
Produce materials and ensure timely reporting to Board of Directors on business performance
-
Working with measurement owners, facilitate the process of establishing performance measures,targets and thresholds that are aligned with the IESO’s strategy
-
Monitor and analyze performance results and report on situational context and/or correctiveactions for areas not achieving targets
-
Complete regular business performance review meetings with senior leadership to deliver interimprogress updates and final-year assessment reports to the Board
-
Input measures and target data into the strategy development and business planning process.
Other Duties (As Required)
-
Input risk and performance management data into enterprise business planning process to helpensure timelines in the development of the plan are on track and requirements are being met forthe business plan submission to the Government.

Support the IESO’s annual revenue requirement submission to the Ontario Energy Board byproviding risk and performance management related inputs

Respond to Government and Ontario Energy Board questions on risk and performancemanagement
What you need to Succeed
-
Requires a knowledge of business principles and processes to conduct strategic businessassessments, conduct research, support the development of quality management performancemeasures and targets, and contribute to the provision of high-quality risk and performance reports,direction, guidelines and recommendations for achieving effective management systems andbusiness processes.

This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of four-yearUniversity education in the appropriate field (accounting, business, economics, finance, law) or byhaving the equivalent level of education.
-
Experience in management consulting, technical and analytical knowledge and understanding ofthe energy industry – specifically energy systems, markets and energy management.
-
Experience in the development, coordination and management of projects along with strongbusiness acumen with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to recognizeand identify critical issues.
-
Excellent communications skills and ability to advise the leadership team on complex, cross-functional issues and decisions that impact the organization’s ability to effectively manage its riskexposure and a focus on operational efficiency and speed of execution for key priorities

A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain thisexperience.
