About the role

About Us

Founded in 2012, Pear Tree Education is a well-established educational organization in Metro Vancouver redefining learning through progressive, hands-on education. Now in our 15th year of running summer camps, we operate a fully accredited independent school alongside our high-demand camps and community programs division.

We empower students to discover their calling, develop purpose, and make a real difference in the world. Our team is united by a shared commitment to progressive education and fostering meaningful relationships with our students, families, and community.

The Opportunity

Pear Tree Education is seeking an exceptional Director of Camps & Education Programs to lead the execution and scaling of our entire programs division.

The Operating Environment

You will operate within the Pear Tree Operating System (PTOS) —our integrated leadership and execution system covering strategy, leadership, systems, finance, communication, and culture. We provide the strategic framework; you provide the operational execution.

The Scope (Year-Round Revenue)

This is a comprehensive business leadership role managing the operational success of the following areas:

  • Camps Division: Summer camps, spring break camps, and Pro-D day camps.
  • Academic Division: Year-round after-school programs, SSAT prep courses, and "Mini School" classes.
  • Teacher Professional Development: Logistics and marketing of progressive education courses offered to external educators (B2B).

The Mission

We currently operate 5–6 locations with a long-term vision of scaling to 30+ locations nationwide. Your Year 1 mandate is to diagnose our current satellite performance, build a repeatable operational playbook, and prove the model works before we scale further. This role includes a performance-based bonus structure tied to measurable improvements in fill rates, contribution margin, and operational execution—allowing you to directly benefit from the revival and growth of the camp division.

Note: This is initially a hands-on individual contributor role supported by our leadership and admin team, with the expectation that you will hire and lead 1–3 direct reports within your first 12 months.

Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Growth & Portfolio Management

  • Operational Scaling: Build the operational playbook that allows us to move from 6 to 30 locations over the next decade.
  • Portfolio Optimization: Orchestrate the calendar for conflicting business lines to maximize revenue during off-peak times via after-school and Pro-D offerings.
  • Teacher Pro-D Expansion: Oversee the logistics for our adult education courses to ensure a professional experience for visiting teachers.
  • Financial Targets: Own annual targets for revenue and profitability across all camp and extended learning programs.

2. Human Resources & Talent Management

  • Recruitment Strategy: Lead the full-cycle hiring process for seasonal camp instructors, year-round tutors, and SSAT specialists.
  • Vetting & Compliance: Conduct interviews, manage reference checks, run background checks, and ensure certifications are valid.
  • Scheduling: Master the complex rostering of staff across multiple locations and program types.
  • Team Leadership: Provide coaching, team development, and ongoing mentorship to seasonal and year-round staff.

3. Marketing, Sales & Enrollment

  • Customer Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming queries, managing parent expectations for camps and tutoring and professional inquiries for Teacher Pro-D.
  • Paid & Content Marketing: Manage paid advertising campaigns to lower customer acquisition costs (CAC) and coordinate marketing assets for both B2C (parents) and B2B (teachers) audiences.
  • Community Partnerships: Build relationships with local schools and community centers to expand our after-school presence.
  • Retention Strategy: Implement strategies to ensure 80%+ of local participants express intent to return.

4. Operations, Logistics & Facilities

  • Procurement & Inventory: Purchase and organize bulk snacks, craft supplies, and educational kits for all programs.
  • Logistics & Transport: Plan the movement of equipment and "Camp Kits" between venues to ensure smooth transitions between summer, spring, and after-school setups.
  • Venue Coordination: Act as the liaison with booked venues, managing access codes, janitorial schedules, and facility usage.
  • Tech & Print Setup: Oversee the imaging of computers and tablets and ensure all print materials (signage, workbooks, handouts) are ready for launch.

5. Program Execution & Quality Assurance

  • On-Site Management: Act as the mobile "floater" during peak program weeks to support site leads and ensure quality across locations.
  • Quality Control: Observe classes to ensure the Pear Tree curriculum is being delivered to our high standards.
  • Emergency Response: Serve as the primary decision-maker for immediate on-site issues such as sick children, staff no-shows, and facility issues.

Minimum Requirements

  • Five or more years in program leadership, business development, or operations.
  • Experience with multi-location operations is essential.
  • Experience managing diverse product lines (for example, simultaneous youth and adult educational programs) is a strong plus.
  • Proven track record of growing programs and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strong tech literacy with registration systems, CRM, and Google/Meta ads.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle, which is essential for the multi-site role.

Compensation Structure

  • Base Salary: $65,000 – $75,000, depending on experience.
  • Performance Bonuses: Significant earning potential bringing total compensation to $90,000+ based on fill rate improvements, site profitability, and operational execution.
  • Note: Year 1 bonuses are tied to improvement metrics you can directly influence—fill rate gains versus baseline, contribution margin by site, and operational execution. As the model matures, bonus structures will shift toward absolute growth.
