Position Title: Co-op - Individual Underwriting

Reports To: Director, Individual Underwriting Operations

Department: Individual Insurance

Term: Temporary Full-Time, Eight (8) Months

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

The Opportunity: Equitable is growing! We are looking for a Co-op – Individual Underwriting to join our Individual Insurance Underwriting Team as an Underwriting Coordinator. This role will provide support with reinsurance processes, underwriting evidence as well as collecting and using data to detail insights. The Underwriting Coordinator works closely with the Underwriting ensuring preparing medical evidence to be used to assess morbidity and mortality for life and living benefits insurance purposes. What you will be doing:

  • Communication information to reinsurers, clients, advisors and third parties regarding underwriting evidence and decision
  • Investigate and work with multiple vendors and appropriate experts regarding fee approvals to determine solutions to ensure effective cost management of doctor reports, medical exams and lab tests
  • Participate in a variety of underwriting production and innovation projects
  • Track and analyze data used at different stages of the underwriting cycle

What you will bring:

  • Clear writing, listening and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Attention to detail/accuracy
  • Knowledge of Microsoft tools, with above average knowledge of Excel with the ability to create charts, reports and analyze data.
