About the role

Job Description Project: Alamos Shaft Sinking & Headwork - Dubreuilville, ON

Rotation: 14 days on, 14 days off

Shift Length: 12 hours

Travel: Kilometers paid

Accommodation: Camp setting

Job Summary The primary role of a Shaft Leader is to perform, while maintaining fall arrest standards and working on a suspended work platform, various tasks such as, the installation of vent tubing and mine services (air, water and pumping lines), shaft lining installation which includes pouring concrete into the shaft wall forms, installation of shaft steel, and minor construction.

General RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates and directs crew member’s activities in the mine
  • Inspects, services and repairs shaft and shaft equipment, including shaft sets, tight lining, guides, pipes, ladders, shaft doors, manway, ore pass brows and dumps.
  • Removes slimes and muck from pump sumps, spill pockets, slims dams and shaft bottom
  • Blasts obstructions in loading pockets, transfer raises, etc.
  • Drills, blasts and excavates around shaft
  • Prepares and pours concrete for footings, dams, and other structures.
  • Installs bulkheads in ore and waste passes (if applicable)
  • Assists in the movement of heavy equipment in the shaft
  • Operates shaft signal system
  • Installs and remove cage safety hood
  • Responsible for signing shaft inspection report book
  • Keeps working area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
  • Ensure work area is properly ventilated
  • Inspect ropes and attachments, daily
  • Ensure ground support is adequate
  • Recognize and correct hazards
  • Maintain confidentiality with respect to AMC UK and client information

Health And Safety

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.
  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
  • Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area.

Qualifications Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Full Basic (or other provincial equivalent)

  • Required Specialty Module: U0084 (or other provincial equivalent preferred)

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in shaft mining

Knowledge Required

  • Ability to multi task and work effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
  • Respectful of cultural differences
