About The Opportunity
We are partnering with a well established engineering consulting firm that specializes in fire protection engineering, life safety, building code consulting, and fire safety solutions across Canada.
Due to continued growth, we are looking to add experienced Fire Protection Systems Engineers to the team. We welcome applications from both Mechanical Engineers with expertise in sprinkler and suppression systems and Electrical Engineers with expertise in fire alarm systems.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex projects across commercial, residential, healthcare, industrial, infrastructure, institutional, aviation, transit, and mixed use developments.
What You Will Do
Manage fire protection engineering projects from concept through construction.
Review, design, and assess fire protection systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
Interpret and apply the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, National Building Code, NFPA standards, and ULC standards.
Conduct site reviews, inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
Prepare engineering reports, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
Work closely with contractors, architects, developers, building owners, and authorities having jurisdiction.
Attend project meetings and provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
Review shop drawings and provide construction support.
Assist clients with code compliance, system upgrades, and fire protection strategies.
Provide technical leadership and support to project teams.
Mechanical Fire Protection Engineering Responsibilities
Design and review sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, fire pumps, and special suppression systems.
Perform hydraulic calculations and pipe sizing.
Develop fire protection drawings and specifications.
Evaluate existing fire protection systems and recommend upgrades or replacements.
Utilize HydraCAD and related design tools.
Electrical Fire Alarm Engineering Responsibilities
Design and review fire alarm systems for a variety of building types.
Prepare fire alarm drawings, specifications, and system layouts.
Evaluate existing fire alarm systems and recommend replacement or modernization solutions.
Support testing, commissioning, and system integration activities.
Develop alternative solutions and technical reports related to fire alarm compliance.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) required.
Minimum 5 years of experience in fire protection engineering, fire alarm engineering, or related life safety consulting.
Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, ULC standards, Ontario Building Code, and Ontario Fire Code.
Experience working on large scale commercial, residential, healthcare, industrial, infrastructure, or mixed use projects.
Strong project management and stakeholder management skills.
Excellent communication, report writing, and problem solving abilities.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Experience
Fire alarm system design.

Fire pump systems.
Special suppression systems.
Alternative solutions.
Site inspections and commissioning.
Construction administration.
Code consulting.
HydraCAD experience for mechanical candidates.
