Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes is an innovative, multi-service community agency offering a wide range of community support and clinical services. Our dedicated staff and volunteers are committed to providing assistance, connection, and compassion whenever needed.
Community Care’s Specialized Transportation Program is an essential service that provides door-to-door, individualized transportation to meet a variety of special needs. We are currently accepting applications for the position of Specialized Transportation Driver to provide non-emergency stretcher and wheelchair transportation using agency vehicles.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Provide safe, courteous, and reliable non-emergency stretcher and wheelchair transportation for clients in accordance with agency policies and procedures.

Assist clients with secure boarding, positioning, and disembarking, including the safe use of wheelchairs, stretchers, lifts, ramps, and securement systems.

Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and ensure vehicles are clean, well-maintained, and fully equipped.

Accurately complete trip documentation, logs, and required reports in a timely manner.

Communicate effectively with the Coordinators, clients, caregivers, and healthcare partners regarding schedules, delays, or client needs.

Respond appropriately to client concerns, changes in condition, or unexpected situations, escalating concerns as required.

Follow all applicable legislation, including the Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

Adhere to infection prevention and control practices and agency health and safety protocols.
-
Participate in mandatory training, meetings, and performance improvement initiatives.
-
Represent Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes in a professional, respectful, and compassionate manner at all times.
KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION (abilities, skills, behaviours).

Current Drivers’ Licence (Class G) and Clean Ministry of Transportation Driving Record

Experience working with frail elderly or disabled
-
Understanding of safe lifting and transfer practices
-
Current CPR and First Aid certification
-
Good communication skills
-
Good interpersonal skills
-
Ability to exercise sound judgment, good interpersonal skills, and exhibit flexibility

Good team player

Understanding of Community Care and Specialized Transportation services
The nature of this role requires the incumbent to be physically capable of assisting clients, including the safe lifting, securing, and maneuvering of occupied wheelchairs and providing assistance with stretchers. The position also requires availability to work rotational shifts, including evenings and weekends.
WAGE:
The wage range for this exciting opportunity is $19.15 – $20.94. Selected candidates will be appropriately placed on the organizations wage grid based on skill, knowledge and experience.
