Job Description Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Total Rewards will support the Total Rewards team in various operational and analytical tasks related to compensation and benefits. This role offers students hands-on experience in Human Resources, focusing on compensation processes, benefits administration, and data management.
The intern will assist with year-end compensation activities, job documentation compliance, and compensation data audits. They will also help administer employee benefits programs and participate in compensation-related projects. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a desire to learn are essential for success in this fast-paced environment.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 889 Harbourside Drive, North Vancouver. What You'll Do
- Support Year-End Compensation Processes: Assists in preparing materials, data entry, and supporting documentation for the annual compensation review process. Help with auditing and reporting tasks, ensuring accuracy and adherence to timelines.
- Job Documentation and Classification Support: Works with team members to ensure job documentation is accurate and classifications align with company standards. Assist in auditing job information to maintain compliance and internal equity.
- Compensation Data Audits: Conducts initial reviews of compensation data to support internal equity, pay equity, and policy compliance. Prepare data summaries or reports as needed for Total Rewards initiatives.
- Year-End Activities: Provides support with year-end processes, including data entry for audits, calculations, and payment processing. Collaborate with team members to verify information for compensation cycles.
- Benefits and Recognition Administration Support: Assists in the administration of employee benefits programs, including data entry, tracking enrollment changes, and responding to basic inquiries about benefits offerings.
- Project Participation: Joins compensation and benefits projects by assisting in research, data gathering, and basic analysis. Provide administrative support for program development and policy updates.
- HR and Managerial Support: Serves as a resource for basic compensation and benefits inquiries, directing complex questions to team members as appropriate. Support the Total Rewards team in responding to questions from the HR department and management.
What You'll Bring
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, Actuarial Science, Data Science, Statistics.
- Previous internship or relevant coursework in HR, compensation, or benefits administration is a plus.
- Involvement or exposure to school projects related to quantitative, analytical, and business operations in the fields of Human Resources.
- Basic understanding of compensation and benefits principles is desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data.
- Proficient computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Specially in Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis.
