Building Engineer - Vancouver Convention Centre
About the role
The award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre owned and operated by the BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo) is currently searching for a highly motivated and service-oriented full-time Building Engineer to join our team.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Facilities Operations, the Building Engineer ensures consistent plant operation at VCC’s complex East and West buildings.
Working rotating shifts with 24-hour coverage, the Building Engineer is the first point of contact for all emergency situations at the Convention Centre.
This role will be responsible for ensuring that building systems are well maintained and operating correctly to allow the business to deliver a world class level of service to our clients and guests.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Perform maintenance repairs to HVAC equipment.
- Inspect, and maintain plant equipment, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, meters, and other instruments to monitor temperature, pressure, and flow.
- Ensure plant equipment is operating at maximum efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed.
- Operate automated building management controls systems, stationary equipment, and auxiliary equipment such as chillers, generators, pumps, compressors, and other equipment to provide heat, ventilation, refrigeration, light as well as power for the facility.
- Operate fire protection systems.
- Analyze and correct equipment malfunctions.
- Troubleshoot and perform corrective action and minor repairs to prevent equipment or system failure, including plumbing repairs and electrical troubleshooting.
- Clean and lubricate generators, fans, pumps, and compressors.
- Perform other routine equipment maintenance duties using appropriate lubricants, hand, power and precision tools and instruments in accordance with the preventative maintenance schedule.
- Ensure all equipment covered under the Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Regulations is operated and maintained as per Technical Safety BC requirements.
- Ensure proper safety measures are always followed.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in facility operations and maintenance within a complex venue (10+ years preferred).
- Ideal candidates will be highly analytical, with strong proficiency in CMMS and work order documentation.
- Certification as a 4th Class Power Engineer in the Province of British Columbia
- Red Seal Journeyman certification in a construction trade is an asset.
- Certification in any ASTTBC designation, Cross Connection Control or Wastewater Treatment Plant operation is an asset
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, & electrical systems
- Knowledge of applicable by-laws and procedures from Technical Safety BC, BC Wastewater, City of Vancouver, and other regulatory authorities
- Sound understanding of DDC Systems
- Sound knowledge of Fire and Life Safety Systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs
- Exceptional communicator, able to clearly share ideas and information both verbally and in writing.
- Highly organized and a natural problem-solver, skilled at balancing priorities and making independent, confident decisions.
- Collaborative team player who thrives in a team environment but can also take ownership and work independently.
- Passionate about creating outstanding experiences for clients and guests.

The salary range for this position is $ 34.35 – 37.00
