About the role

The Managing Director, NFI Canada is a high-impact executive responsible for the strategic leadership and total P&L management of NFI’s Canadian business unit. This role oversees the integration and performance of Warehousing, Brokerage, and Intermodal services across the country. The President will drive organic and inorganic growth, foster a unified "One NFI" culture, and ensure operational excellence across all North American-linked offices.

1. Strategic Leadership & Growth

  • Define and execute the Canadian business strategy to improve services in quality, speed to market, and reliability.
  • Identify business development opportunities, including organic growth, new start-ups, and potential acquisition targets to expand NFI’s Canadian scope.
  • Partner with Sales leadership to develop and execute plans for the continued scale of intermodal, brokerage, and distribution business lines.

2. Operational Excellence & Technology

  • Drive "best-in-practice" techniques for distribution and transportation, ensuring consistent processes across all Canadian facilities and offices.
  • Identify and integrate best-in-class technologies, including Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS), to streamline operations.
  • Ensure all facilities operate in compliance with company policy, mission, vision, and local government/DOT regulations.

3. Financial Accountability (P&L)

  • Maintain full bottom-line responsibility for the Canadian P&L, focusing on key metrics such as Gross Margin %,
  • Operating Income %, and budget variances.
  • Develop initiatives to improve cost performance, profitability, and asset utilization.

4. People & Culture Development

  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing leadership team, including Regional Vice Presidents and Branch leaders.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and "Whatever it Takes" commitment to service expectations.
  • Champion the NFI career path program and utilize training tools to develop the future workforce and leadership pipeline.

5. Relationship & Network Management

  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with customers and Class I railroads to expand scaling capabilities.

  • Collaborate across NFI business lines to drive a "network sell," ensuring end-to-end planning and execution for customers.

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA or advanced degree in Logistics, Engineering, or Finance preferred.

  • Experience: 15+ years of progressive executive responsibility within the distribution, brokerage, or intermodal sectors.

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of WMS/TMS platforms, P&L management, and Canadian transportation regulations.

  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead large, multi-site teams and manage complex, hybrid workforces.

  • Travel: Ability to travel extensively and work irregular hours as needed to support operations across Canada.

We are excited to share the base salary range for this position is $. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, targeted at 50%. NFI takes into consideration applicants' qualifications, experience, education, geographic location, when determining a starting rate of pay.
