About the role

A career at Horizon is for those who want to do something extraordinary, yet with meaningful purpose. We take pride in pushing the boundaries of technology and customer experience to deliver something that has never been done before. We are a fast-moving organization that promotes a hands-on approach, supporting each other through the tough spots, generating a close-knit team with a family feel.

What we do here is hard, but then very few things worth achieving are easy. By joining Horizon, you will have the opportunity to work with our world-class entrepreneurial team who are passionate about delivering something special.

What we need you to bring.

Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, and experienced Embedded Hardware Electronics Engineer. Your role will focus on the design, development, and integration of embedded electronic systems that are critical to our eVTOL aircraft platform. As electronics form the backbone of flight safety, propulsion, and control, you will work closely with a wide range of disciplines — from avionics and flight controls to propulsion and systems engineering — balancing complex and often competing requirements to deliver robust and certifiable hardware solutions.

As we’re a small team, there is significant scope for you to advance your career and learn about adjacent disciplines.

Your Day- To-Day

  • Design, develop, and test embedded hardware systems for avionics, propulsion, and safety-critical applications.
  • Generate and manage hardware requirements, specifications, and interface definitions.
  • Select and evaluate components (processors, sensors, power electronics, communication interfaces) for aerospace-grade performance and reliability.
  • Work with PCB design tools to create schematics, layouts, and prototypes.
  • Develop verification and validation methods for hardware in both bench and system environments.
  • Collaborate with embedded software engineers to define hardware/software interfaces and integration strategies.
  • Support environmental, EMI/EMC, and safety testing to meet aerospace certification standards.
  • Document designs, analysis, and test results in support of regulatory certification (FAA, EASA, TCCA).
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of hardware development processes, with a focus on safety, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Stay up to date with, and implement the latest developments in your field
  • Drive the continuous improvement of our processes to increase safety and efficiency

We are looking for people that will have the following qualifications and experiences: Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in an Embedded Hardware role. You will have strong knowledge of electronics, communication protocols (CAN, ARINC 429, Ethernet, UART, SPI, I²C), and power electronics (ideally in an EVTOL development), and you will have familiarity with eVTOL Certification regulations from the TCCA, FAA, and EASA. You will have a high proficiency in EDA tools, and strong knowledge of mixed-signal circuit design, PCB layout, and embedded processor architectures.

About Your Future Team. As part of the team, you will tackle challenges and deliver something that has never been done before. The team is currently full of multi-skilled individuals who are some of the first Engineers to have joined Horizon. You will join a small team of specialists, which provides significant latitude in developing our working methods alongside needs of developing the platform. Our Benefits.

People are the heart of our success, and we like to provide transparency in the way we operate. This is why our benefits are beyond the normal for Ontario, and we are constantly trying to improve these further.
