Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) is one of Canada’s leading academic health science centres, dedicated to advancing patient care, education, and research. We are currently seeking aRegistered Practical Nurse (RPN)to join ourOccupational Healthteam, supporting the health, safety, and wellbeing of KHSC staff.
This role focuses onprimary and secondary prevention, including health promotion, illness and injury prevention, treatment, and stay-at-work/return-to-work support. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary Occupational Health team to ensure a safe and healthy workplace.
###Position Summary
The Occupational Health RPN provides routine and specialized occupational health services to KHSC employees. This role involves clinical assessments, immunization management, exposure and outbreak response, workplace injury support, and health education. More complex cases requiring tertiary prevention will be managed in consultation with a Registered Nurse (RN) or Disability Case Specialist (DCS).
###Primary Responsibilities
- Assess staff presenting with medical symptoms to determine fitness for work, applying infectious disease protocols and determining work restrictions or PPE requirements as needed
- Participate in exposure and outbreak management, including consultation with an RN regarding follow-up care, surveillance, and testing (e.g., TB skin testing)
- Assess and provide first aid for minor workplace injuries and facilitate modified work arrangements
- Provide case management for workplace injuries, short-term disability leaves, and workplace accommodations, consulting with an RN for complex cases
- Conduct pre-placement health assessments for new employees to ensure compliance with Public Hospitals Act immunization and functional fitness requirements
- Administer required vaccinations and perform TB skin tests
- Perform phlebotomy to verify immunity or as part of post-exposure/needlestick protocols
- Support and promote seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccination campaigns
- Complete additional testing under medical directives (e.g., drug screening, glucometer testing)
- Review immunization records, identify gaps, and follow up with employees to coordinate vaccinations
- Provide health education and refer employees to appropriate KHSC or community resources
- Order and manage occupational health supplies and vaccines
- Perform administrative duties as assigned (e.g., scanning, filing, MSDS database management, wellness initiatives)
- Occasionally provide respiratory fit testing services

###Qualifications
- Diploma from an approved Practical Nurse program (minimum 2-year program) or equivalent
- Registration in good standing with theCollege of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Minimum2–3 yearsexperience as an RPN in Occupational Health -3–5 yearsOccupational Health RPN experience preferred
- Training in Occupational Health and Safety and/or Disability Management preferred
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks independently and collaboratively
- Demonstrated reliability and consistent attendance
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Search required
