Please note, this opportunity is a hybrid work arrangement, located in Burnaby, BC.
Meaningful work you will be a part of You will contribute to Kardium’s manufacturing scale up efforts by implementing PLC-based control systems for custom manufacturing equipment. This includes designing, implementing, improving, and supporting the software and electronics of Kardium’s custom automated equipment, as well as setting up development tools and workflows (i.e. as needed to incorporate control system technology that is new to Kardium).
Examples of equipment that we control include cameras, lasers, multi-axis motion systems, pneumatic valves, and heaters. Specific responsibilities include:
- Setting up internal systems, procedures, and workflows related to building and testing PLC-based control systems (this role will be the first one on the team related to PLC-based development; our existing tools and workflows are for C# and C development and will need to be adapted for PLC-based development)
- Design, implementation, integration, and maintenance of control systems based on Rockwell PLCs and HMIs
- Selection and integration of control system electronics including cameras and robotics
- Capture, documentation, and communication (e.g. to external vendors, or internal stakeholders) of requirements for custom automated equipment
- Organization of, and participation in, multi-disciplinary design reviews related to custom automated equipment
- Transfer of the custom automated equipment to its end user and provision of ongoing support

You are suited to our approach and possess these attributes and abilities:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Extensive experience working in this field.
- PLC and HMI software development skills and knowledge.
- Demonstrated history of taking initiative with setting up new engineering processes and procedures
- Experience with programming and interfacing with vision systems (e.g. Keyence, Cognex), and robot systems (e.g. ABB, Fanuc)
- Experience implementing machinery safety control systems per ISO-13849.
Compensation Kardium has listed the total cash compensation range (base salary + 5% RRSP contribution) that we expect to pay applicants for this role, as of the time of this posting. Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, and business or organizational needs. For candidates with more or less experience than listed above, the pay range will be adjusted.
As a permanent employee, you will also participate in Kardium’s stock option plan.
