The Product Knowledge team is at the epicenter of eBay’s Tech-driven, Customer-centric overhaul. Our team is entrusted with creating and using eBay’s Product Knowledge - a vast Big Data system which is built up of listings, transactions, products, knowledge graphs, and more. Our team has a mix of highly proficient people from multiple fields such as Machine Learning, Data Science, Software Engineering, Operations, and Big Data Analytics. What You Will Accomplish
Own a backend functional area end-to-end; set coding and documentation standards Communicate risks/trade-offs and influence decisions across the team Map business problems to production-ready backend solutions and APIs; drive ramp, launch, and observability Champion engineering excellence: security, scalability, performance, availability Identify cross-system gaps; propose solutions and drive resolution Build lightweight demo applications, including mobile demos when useful, to validate ideas and showcase new capabilities
What You Will Bring
Passion and commitment for technical excellence B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science or an equivalent professional experience 6–9 years of overall software engineering experience, with 3–6 years focused on building production backend systems and services using Java and Spring Boot Mobile development experience is a strong plus Experience with REST/GraphQL APIs, microservices, and event-driven patterns; designing APIs consumed by mobile clients Solid understanding of data modeling and persistence plus NoSQL; caching Hands-on with cloud, containers (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD Strong testing discipline (unit, integration, contract, E2E), code reviews, and documentation Experience building mobile apps or prototypes, ideally on iOS (Swift/SwiftUI); desire to build demo apps as part of the job Experience with coding agents, agentic development workflows, and AI-assisted software engineering is a plus.
Additional Details
The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
C$142,400 - C$190,100
Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including RRSP eligibility, various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
