Job Summary
The Bridge Person and Truck Driver is responsible for contributing to Brides and Structures and work outside to assist with and replace or repair worn or broken components. In addition, the incumbent participates in fabricating and building new components for timber, concrete, and steel railway structures, including bridges and culverts.
Major Responsibilities
- Fabricate, assemble, and build timber, concrete and steel railway bridge components
- Use various common and specialized hand and power tools
- Prepare and carry out minor maintenance of tools for assigned work
- Remove and replace defective bridge, culvert, and other structural components
- Load, unload, sort, shovel, and distribute various materials
- Clean-up of materials after work is completed
- Operate Hi-rail boom trucks to load, transport, and unload bridge, as well as culvert material on road and rail
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work in a unionized environment as a crew member to perform various maintenance, repair, and replacement tasks, in a safety-sensitive environment around heavy moving equipment outdoors in all weather conditions
- The role is exposed to harsh outdoor weather conditions such as heat and cold, as well as noisy surroundings
- Capable of working in various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Required to work away from home, sometimes for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift from 50 to 85 lbs
- Capable of climbing and working at heights using fall protection equipment
- May be required to work with respirator and hearing protection.
Requirements
- Experience in structural environments
- Completion of high School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Attend, pass, and maintain applicable training such as timber trestle, crane, Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR), Track Inspection Guidelines (TIG), National Safety Code (NSC), and steel bridge
- Ability to read and understand detailed drawings and sketches for various types of repair work and new construction
- Ability to follow strict guidelines concerning safe work practices
- Knowledge of cleaning, fabrication, installation, repairs, and maintenance of steel and concrete structures, as well as culverts
Assets
- Experience in physical labour, including lifting and occasional heavy lifting
- Class 3 Drivers’ Licence with air endorsement or equivalent in the province of residence

This position is a unionized position, as such pay and benefits are governed by the applicable Collective Agreement.
Paid Training
Successful candidates will take part in a paid four-week training program at a CN Campus (Winnipeg, MB) with additional on-the-job training to help ensure that they have received the adequate knowledge to operate in accordance with regulatory requirements and CN’s safety standards. The training is primarily on health and safety rules as successful completion of the classroom and on-the-job training is required to continue employment as a Bridgeperson/Truck Driver at CN.
Successful Candidate Process:
- Medical assessment (including drug, hearing, and vision)
- Criminal background check
- Offer Letter
Paid Training Structure:
- 4 weeks at CN Campus (Classroom training & Knowledge Checks)
