JUNIOR NETWORK ENGINEER
POSITION SUMMARY
As a Technology & Innovation team member, the Junior Network Engineer will support the design, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure at Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA). Reporting to the Network Engineer, this role assists in ensuring a secure, reliable, and efficient network environment supporting airport operations, passengers, and stakeholders.
The Junior Network Engineer will work on network administration, troubleshooting, security measures, and documentation while gaining hands-on experience in a high-demand IT environment.
JOB DUTIES:
- Assist in configuring, monitoring, and maintaining network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points).
- Support LAN, WAN, WLAN, and Data Center networking under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Monitor network performance, latency, and security using network management tools.
- Participate in troubleshooting network issues and escalating complex problems to the senior team members or vendors as necessary.
- Assist in wireless network management, including coverage optimization, access point configurations, and security enhancements.
- Support VoIP systems, ensuring proper call routing, quality assurance, and troubleshooting.
- Work on firewalls, security configurations, and VPNs to help maintain network security.
- Support cloud networking and security within platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Help in documenting network infrastructure, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with internal IT teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure seamless network connectivity and performance.
- Provide essential technical support and respond to network incidents promptly.
- Assist in implementing network upgrades and system improvements as part of ongoing projects.
- Learn and apply best practices for disaster recovery and redundancy planning.
- Perform network cable and wireless radio troubleshooting as required.
- Contribute to installing, maintaining, and supporting security technologies (e.g., surveillance cameras, door access control systems).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a Diploma/ Computer Science degree, IT, or related field.
- Cisco certifications such as CCNA or any equivalent.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in network administration.
- In-depth knowledge of network protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF).
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
- Familiarity with Network security principles.
- Familiarity with Linux and Windows Server environments.
- Experience with network management and security tools will be an asset.
- Exceptional teamwork, analytical and problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and writing skills (documentations, reports, presentations).
- Experience in troubleshooting network connectivity issues, performance optimization, and resolving network-related incidents.
