The South Slave Divisional Education Council is the governing education body for the South Slave Division as legislated under the Education Act. Established as a corporation at arm’s length from the Territorial Government, the SSDEC consists of one member selected from each of the five locally elected District Education Authorities (DEAs) that represent the communities of Fort Smith, Fort Resolution, Hay River, Lutsel K’e and K'atlodeeche. The SSDEC serves approximately 1300 students in eight schools, is responsible for a staff of approximately 185 administrators, teachers and support staff and a budget of over 25 million. The Superintendent and staff of the SSDEC provide professional advice; educational, administrative, technical and financial services; monitoring and support and assistance to the SSDEC, community-based DEAs and their secretary treasurers, school administrators and staff, stakeholders, members of the public, and particularly, students and their families in order to ensure the delivery of quality educational programs and services within the division.

The community of Fort Smith is located along the Slave River which provides an abundance of outdoor activity options for the 2,500 residents. Aside from the water activities, and world class rapids, provided by the river there are a number of other amenities to help residents enjoy a balanced lifestyle including a beautiful local campsite, 9-hole golf course, pool and a curling rink to name just a few.
The South Slave Education Council is seeking a Comptroller to live in beautiful Fort Smith while working to support approximately 1,300 students spread over eight schools in five communities. As the successful applicant you will be responsible for the administration of the financial and personnel support services on behalf of the Council. You¿ll need experience in developing, revising, and implementing policies and procedures to ensure the effective delivery of those services.
In addition to that you¿ll need experience in managing internal control policies, electronic financial systems, and budgeting.
To be considered for this position you¿ll have to have completed a Chartered Professional Accounting designation, have a University Degree in Accounting and several years of senior financial and administrative experience in a computerized accounting environment. Supervisory experience and experience working with
a publicly funded organization is preferred.
Experience in an educational organization is an asset.
