Job Information
Are you a technical expert in contaminated sites management and want to ensure contaminated sites are cleaned up appropriately across the NWT? Working and living in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, and you will be the principal technical oversight and reviewer of contaminated site assessment and remediation activities by external proponents, to ensure regulatory compliance with the Environmental Protection Act. You will also inform and develop regulatory tools to ensure contaminated site requirements are current and appropriate.
Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Protection, you will have the ability to ensure environmental protection measures adequately protect the land, air, and water through delivery of programs and policies in regulating the management of contaminated sites in the NWT.
The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge of current and emerging contaminated sites policies, methods, theories, principles, trends, remediation technologies and best management practices. Some of the key qualifications include:
- Demonstrated experience in contaminated site inspections and technical expertise
- Contract and project management knowledge and experience
- Strong engagement skills
- Excellent communication and time management
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant engineering, geology, or geoscience fields, environmental science, or relevant science discipline with at least three years of related experience in contaminated sites management
- A valid driver's license
- Ability to obtain and maintain H2S Alive Certification
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training
Equivalencies include:
- Graduate degree in a relevant engineering, geology, or geoscience fields, environmental science, or relevant science discipline with at least one year of related experience in contaminated sites management; or
- Diploma in a relevant engineering, geology, or geoscience fields, environmental science, or relevant science discipline with at least five years of related experience in contaminated sites management
