Financial Services' mission is to provide effective financial leadership, services, information and stewardship in support of the academic, research and service activities of Western’s community.

##Responsibilities

The Accounting Assistant will provide financial and administrative assistance within Financial Services, to ensure that finances are accurate and up-to-date. The Accounting Assistant is accountable for ensuring the prompt and accurate processing and payment of the high volume of invoices received from vendors for the purchase of goods and services, as well as the transfer of funds for non-purchasing related requests. The Accounting Assistant will review and ensure that invoices meet the University's documentation standards and will process invoices in accordance with departmental controls and Western policies and procedures. The Accounting Assistant acts as a first point of contact for inquiries, investigating and responding to vendor and department inquiries related to accounts payable.

##Qualifications

Education:

  • 2 year Community College Diploma in Business Accounting or Financial Administration

Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience in accounts payable, using a computerized accounting system

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general office procedures
  • Detail oriented with an ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner and adapt communication style to suit the situation and the audience
  • Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and follow through on work assignments
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to provide guidance and support to ensure compliance with processes in a way that is positively received
  • Results-oriented with an ability to handle many tasks and maintain a high level of performance
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate internal and external policies, guidelines and practices to stakeholders
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office, including spreadsheet maintenance, word processing and database management
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve departmental results
  • Familiar with applications used by Western – e-mail, calendars, OWL, Cascade, PeopleSoft, Mustang Market preferred
