As part of the division, the Business Services branch provides
Legislative planning and reporting. Coordination of the department’s policy, legislation and agency governance files. Coordination of the red tape reduction initiative for the department and facilities and accommodations services on behalf of the department for both the Edmonton and Calgary offices.
The Policy Coordination and Agency Governance team in the Business Services branch of the Ministry Services Division is responsible for the policy and legislative coordination process and agencies, boards, and commissions for the ministry. Policy Coordination and Agency Governance provides strategic leadership for the department on cross-government initiatives and priorities. Core to this function is providing leadership on high-profile, cross-boundary initiatives. The branch serves as a strategic hub for the department and acts as a proactive policy/planning arm, employing techniques such as strategic foresight, scenario planning, and social innovation to drive new ways of thinking and planning in today’s complex energy landscape. Role Responsibilities

If so, you may be an excellent fit for a Planning Analyst position with the Policy Coordination and Agency Governance team.Reporting to the Manager of Policy and Planning, you will play a central role in coordinating ministry priorities for Cabinet and legislative approvals and supporting the successful delivery of high-profile initiatives. Working closely with executive leadership, divisional teams, and policy coordination partners, you will help ensure projects remain on track, risks and issues are identified early, and key deliverables move efficiently through government processes.This role is ideal for someone who enjoys enabling the success of others. Rather than owning policy files or drafting substantive policy content, you will act as a trusted coordinator and facilitator, supporting the teams responsible for delivering projects by providing project oversight, coordination, planning, and problem-solving expertise.The successful candidate is a highly organized and detail-oriented project coordinator who thrives in a dynamic environment. You are comfortable supporting initiatives led by others and take pride in keeping projects on track through effective planning, coordination, follow-up, and issue management. You are known for your ability to anticipate next steps, manage competing priorities, and helping to bring together the right people at the right time to achieve results. Some of the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate and monitor priority ministry initiatives, ensuring deliverables, approvals, and milestones are tracked and completed on schedule. Develop and maintain project plans, action trackers, schedules, and reporting tools to support effective project delivery. Proactively identify risks and coordination challenges, to keep initiatives moving forward. Support ministry efforts to reduce red-tape administrative burden, participate in maintaining red-tape counts and red-tape policy considerations. Provide centralized coordination for complex and time-sensitive initiatives involving multiple divisions, ministries, agencies, and stakeholders. Monitor action requests, commitments, and deadlines, ensuring appropriate follow-up and escalation when required. Support divisions in navigating government approval processes, timelines, and decision-making requirements. Facilitate collaboration across organizational boundaries, ensuring stakeholders remain informed, aligned, and engaged. Develop and maintain tools, guidance materials, templates, and process resources that help project teams navigate government processes more effectively. Prepare status updates, briefing materials, and project reporting for senior leadership.

Qualifications
Required
University graduation in a related field (political science, public administration, policy, business, social sciences etc.) plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience in research and analysis, policy coordination, and policy analysis and development.
Equivalency
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets
Experience planning complex strategic projects. Experience with strategic issues management. Experience tailoring communication and writing for an executive audience. Experience reading and interpreting legislation. Experience preparing briefing materials for executive leadership to support decision-making and planning. Knowledge of the policy development cycle. Knowledge and familiarity with Government of Alberta operations and key government priorities such as red tape reduction.
