The Mactaquac Generating Station began generating electricity in 1968. Since the 1980s, concrete portions of the hydro station have been affected by a chemical reaction called alkali-aggregate reaction (AAR). The reaction causes the concrete to swell and crack and has required substantial annual maintenance and repairs. NB Power is proposing a project to ensure the station can operate to its intended 100-year lifespan with a modified approach to maintenance and adjusting and replacing equipment and concrete overtime.

As part of the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project, the Engineer V (Civil Engineering Construction Lead) is responsible for enhancing the effectiveness of project delivery through strong project management practices, including standardization, quality control, structure, and discipline, for the Fish Passage project.

Key functions include

Lead the management of a Tier 3 or 4, multidisciplinary project, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations. Support the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project through both planning and execution phases, while effectively integrating project deliverables with broader organizational objectives and initiatives. Lead environmental and efficiency studies in support of the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project and liaise with Department of Fisheries and Oceans and First Nations groups. Support the Major Civil Works procurement process, including the development of procurement and contract documentation, evaluation of proponents, negotiation of contract terms, coordination with contractors, and oversight of early works activities.

Our ideal teammate will have

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

Registered Professional Engineer licensed in New Brunswick or eligible for immediate transfer Eight years of progressive responsibility carrying out project management activities, with at least five years of experience in: delivering capital construction projects, including strategic planning, resource management, team coordination and stakeholder engagement for successfully completed Tier 3 or 4 projects. risk management, including identification, assessment, and mitigation. contract management, including administration, change management, and compliance

As well as

demonstrated knowledge and formal training in standard project management methodologies and tools e.g., Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or working toward a PMP designation. proven knowledge of federal and provincial environmental and regulatory processes.

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.

An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
