Qualifications

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • Certificate in Career Education/Consulting is required.
  • Degree with a major in Human Resource Management, Marketing, or Business preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years of directly-related administrative experience is required.
  • Minimum three years previous experience administering or managing a co-op/WIL or internship program.
  • Minimum three years of experience in career education consulting, coaching and advising capacity, preferably within a post-secondary education sector is required.
  • Certificate in Career Education/Consulting is required.
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor staff, lead strategic initiatives, and oversee program implementation and evaluation.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, business development, and relationship management is required. Established network within the private and public sector would be preferred.
  • Proficiency in marketing strategy, branding, and communications, with experience promoting career programs and employer engagement initiatives.
  • Proficiency in using social media channels for marketing and recruitment purposes is required
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data collection, reporting, and assessment to measure program effectiveness and impact.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in developing and facilitating career education curriculum for modularized workshops and strong presentation
    skills required.
  • Demonstrated strength in administrative and organizational skills, with proven ability to manage complex projects.

  • Demonstrated technical proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, Adobe, and knowledge of web site maintenance. Familiarity with CRM systems (Symplicity/Orbis) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with international student issues and work permit legislation and demonstrated ability to deal sensitively with cross cultural issues required.
  • Experience managing budget allocations and forecasting required.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Strong program planning, execution, and evaluation skills with a focus on continuous improvement and alignment with strategic goals; proven ability to create, lead, and deliver programs to meet department needs is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of career management, labour market trends, and post-graduate professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CPHR, CFA, actuarial designations) is required.
  • Experience developing and delivering modularized career education curriculum and student-facing workshop is required.
  • Demonstrated success in networking, marketing, and employer engagement across private, public, and non-profit sectors; self-confident and proactive - able to professionally represent the Co-op/WIL program of the ASB to internal and external stakeholders are required.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and public presentation skills is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and events effectively is required.
  • Analytical skills to support data collection, reporting, and program evaluation for internal and accreditation purposes is required.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision; exhibits initiative and innovative approach to program and service delivery is required.
  • Sound decision making, problem resolution and negotiation skills with a customer service focus is required.
  • Comfortable using digital tools and technology to support program delivery, marketing, and student/employer engagement is required.
  • Willingness to travel locally, provincially, and occasionally nationally, and to work evenings and weekends as required.

Key responsibilities

Program Planning and Strategic Implementation:

  • Contribute to the strategic planning and continuous improvement of Co-op and WIL programs to ensure alignment with academic, institutional, and accreditation goals (e.g., CEWIL, AACSB).
  • Support the Director in developing and executing long-term program objectives, ensuring operational alignment and stakeholder engagement.
  • Lead the implementation of innovative WIL initiatives that respond to labour market trends and enhance student outcomes.
  • Champion equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI), and Indigenous perspectives in experiential learning design and delivery.
  • Represent the co-op/WIL function in cross-departmental initiatives and institutional planning efforts, as delegated by the Director.
  • Collaborate with local and national colleagues and professional networks to identify emerging trends and best practices in the delivery and execution of WIL programs.
  • Coordinate and respond to data and reporting requests related to program outcomes for institutional analysis, rankings, and accreditation purposes.

Staff Supervision and Development:

  • Supervise and mentor Co-op/WIL Coordinators and support staff to ensure high-quality service delivery, clear role definitions, and balanced workloads, operating within the strategic framework set by the Director.
  • Lead day-to-day performance management activities, including goal setting, conducting performance reviews, and implementing corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, and professional development planning to build team capacity and support continuous learning.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and improvement-oriented team culture, aligning with the Director’s vision and institutional values.

Employer Engagement and Business Development:

  • Support the Director in advancing targeted employer outreach and business development initiatives that expand high-quality placement opportunities across a diversity of fields, sectors and geographic regions.
  • Collaboratively develop an annual business development plan and budget with Director, Business Development Specialist and other departments to guide outreach priorities, resource allocation, and achieve target KPIs and student placement rates.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with new and existing employer partners, ensuring ongoing engagement and alignment with program goals.
  • Provide employers with guidance on co-op/WIL processes, wage subsidy and tax credit programs, and inclusive hiring
    practices.
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of employer marketing materials; contribute to sponsorship planning and execution
    for key events.
  • Represent the Co-op program at employer-facing events and association activities, in collaboration with the Director.

Student Experience and Academic Integration:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for student career programming, ensuring delivery of high-quality workshops, Master classes, and advising content aligned with academic curriculum.
  • Develop and facilitate modularized career education curriculum and workshops, applying strong presentation and communication skills to engage diverse student audiences effectively.
  • Guide development of inclusive programming that supports equity-deserving students, including international and Indigenous students.
  • Model outstanding student advising by demonstrating active listening, empathy, and providing personalized support that fosters student confidence and career readiness.
  • Provide informed insights on curriculum, labour market conditions, evolving employment trends, and relevant post-graduate professional certifications such as CPHR, CPA, CFA, and actuarial designations to guide students’ career planning.
  • Review co-op work term change request forms and approve them based on proposed rationale and curriculum offerings, ensuring flexibility for students to participate in other valuable experiential learning opportunities such as case competitions, international exchanges, and student leadership roles.
  • Oversee conflict resolution processes providing insights and advice to coordinators to ensure high quality student/employer engagement throughout the program.
  • Stay current on career development and work-integrated learning best practices and use this expertise to coach and mentor Co-op/WIL Coordinators in improving student advising, engagement, and placement outcomes.

Program Administration and Budget Oversight:

  • Support the Director in budget planning and monitoring to ensure the financial sustainability of co-op/WIL initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of policies, procedures, and digital tools that enhance program delivery efficiency.
  • Oversee operational quality assurance, including reviewing and approving co-op placements, mid-term evaluations, and managing student/employer feedback processes.
  • Lead data collection, analysis, and prepare reports on program metrics and student/employer outcomes to inform internal decision-making and support accreditation compliance.

Stakeholder Engagement, Communications, and Events:

  • Take the lead on planning and coordinating the annual Celebrating Co-op event, including securing sponsorship, managing venue logistics, promoting to business guests, and coordinating guest speakers.
  • Manage the Student of the Year and Employer of the Year awards process by soliciting and reviewing nominations, coordinating the selection committee, and preparing certificates and awards for the winners.
  • Collaborate with the CDC and MarComm team to develop and execute promotional strategies and content for co-op/WIL programs across digital platforms.
  • Represent the co-op/WIL program as a key spokesperson at select public events, panels, and accreditation site visits, in coordination with the Director.
  • Collaborate with the broader Career Development Centre team to support shared goals through knowledge-sharing and joint initiatives.
  • May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
