Finance Director Department: Finance

Location: Toronto, Ontario (5 days on-site)

Type of employment: Permanent, Full Time

THE ROLE We are currently hiring for a Finance Director to join our Central Canada Finance Department. Under the leadership of the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Finance supports financial and operational performance by assisting in the development of financial goals; analyzing results; and developing recommendations for operational improvement. Additional responsibilities may include direct supervision of Capital processes, Accounts Payable and Store Auditing.

What You’ll Do Excited to embark on a journey with us? Here's a breakdown of the key responsibilities in this role:

  • Provide management with planning and control information by assembling and analyzing financial data; develop and maintain financial models; provide forecasts; explain processes and techniques; recommend actions; provide information on results against targets.
  • Lead Annual Operating Budget Process, including responsibility for key meetings internally and build presentations to meet deadlines.
  • Provide Field Management with Ad hoc reports needed to better measure operating performance.
  • Establish financial objectives by forecasting requirements; develop a site-level annual operating budget.
  • Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and results. Interpret and explain results to Senior Management.
  • Oversee the management of contract vendors including Fleet Vehicles, and other miscellaneous vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with requirements, policies and regulations by enforcing adherence to corporate systems, policies and governmental regulations; advising management on needed actions. Ensure that internal controls are in place to safeguard assets.
  • Forecast return on investment results; assist in preparation, monitoring and deployment of capital expenditure budget; schedule expenditures; analyze variances including post implementation reviews; initiating corrective action.
  • Evaluate projected financial results of undertaking new projects by analyzing capital expenditure proposals and recommend courses of action.
  • Provide leadership to the Finance Team staff. This includes recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring and appraising job results.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; read professional publications; establish personal networks; and/or participate in professional societies.
  • As part of the Division Management Team, the Director of Finance provides input and recommendations to lead the Division to accomplish its goals.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing Financial and Key Result Area targets pursuant to Company plan guidelines.
  • Special projects to support objectives as required.

What You’ll Need We want you to join our team! Here's what we're looking for:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related field preferred with 5 years of relevant experience preferably in finance analysis, strategic planning, or budgeting and forecasting. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Must be proficient in MS Access, Excel (database functions, pivot tables, confidence with large databases, designing reports quickly and accurately), PowerPoint and Word. Working knowledge of Power BI is an asset
  • Financial accounting software and reporting tools (PDI and Longview reporting tools will be used, experience in similar software an advantage)
  • Intermediate level of accounting knowledge (Fixed assets, lease accounting, fuel accounting)
  • Organization knowledge (various organizational levels, accounting systems), and business knowledge (product offering, key factors of success at the retail unit level, pricing, margin calculations).
  • Positive helpful attitude and determination to make a difference
  • A firm grasp of analytical tools is required, and development of new tools as they come along.
  • Radical curiosity of retail and the constantly changing marketplace.
  • A willingness to adapt to a dynamic business environment, balancing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.

  • This role is full-time, on-site requiring attendance in our office five days a week.
