Summary Entry level position whose main responsibility is safety of all team members and customers using the complex. Range Safety Officer ("RSO") should have extensive knowledge about the operation of Firearm Ranges and firearms. This position adheres to Standard Operating Procedures ("SOPs"), County Policies and provide assistance to shooters utilizing the range. The RSO will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities on the range. Primary duties are conduct and supervise safe shooting activities for all shooters, and assist with training classes. Will conduct range inspections and report any repairs needed to the range. May be required to fix minor range repairs. Will be required to keep the range clean and tidy. The position will report directly to the Executive Range Officer, Chief Range Officer, and the Range Director. The normal work schedule includes:

Essential Functions Ensure strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
Always monitor all activity on the shooting lanes to maintain a safe shooting environment
Inspects firearms for obstructions
Inspects ammunition brought to the range for compliance regulations
Assist customers with appropriate range, lane and target operation
Promote and smoothly execute instructions, programs and shooting events
Knows and follow emergency response plans when required
Assist in performing opening and closing procedures
Keeps ranges sanitary and neat
Works as a team player with all staff
Communicates professionally and courteously with everyone
Adheres to County Policy and Procedures and Range Policy and Procedures
Performs activities around the range including but not limited to empty garbage, brass collection.
Assists customers by answering questions and providing firearms information
And other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Considerable knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to firearms instruction and safety. Considerable knowledge of firearms, ammunition, and safety standards. General knowledge of firearms inspection. General knowledge of range target systems and related applications. General knowledge of supervising safe shooting activities and range operations. General knowledge of sporting ranges such as skeet, trap, clay, and archery. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills that enable them to interface with patrons in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner whether offering assistance or discussing Range Rules or Violations. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public. Knowledge of competition rules/procedures.
Experience & Education High school diploma or GED and 3-5 years' experience in firearms use/safety and weapons maintenance/repair, competition match experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Location:
This role must work from the location identified at the time of hire with work travel required as needed. Any change of work location, even on a short-term or interim basis, must be reviewed by the Supervisor and HR for approval.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting and speaking or hearing; work requires distance vision, ability to adjust focus and depth perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working with explosives and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
Special Requirements Must obtain concealed weapon permit within six months of employment.
Must obtain NRA Range Safety Officer Certification.
Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
