Job Summary

Dalhousie University’s Office of Advancement is responsible for all fundraising and alumni engagement activities at the institution. A team of advancement professionals cultivate relationships with alumni and friends of the university and work with donors to help them achieve personal fulfilment through philanthropic investment. Dalhousie donors commit in aggregate over $70 million each year in the interest of supporting student success, scientific research, and community impact. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, Faculties, the Development Coordinators play an integral role in strategically supporting the solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship of prospects and donors. They will seek to maximize the donor experience and ensure a high level of engagement between our stakeholders and their respective faculties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Development and Development staff in the planning and execution of comprehensive fundraising strategies (i.e., moves management) for each potential donor assigned to the team.

  • Participate in the implementation of a strategic plan that includes an annual fundraising goal and business plan objectives for the team. This includes creating briefing notes, maintaining moves management for key prospects, volunteer management, donor engagement and communication on behalf of frontline fundraisers, and leading the planning for donor events.

  • Facilitate gift agreements with stakeholders according to policy and procedures.

  • Create customized stewardship reports and engagement plans for donors.

  • Work with Advancement Marketing and Communications to assist with proposal development, production, and collateral materials.

  • Support events for donors and alumni which could include local travel and occasional evenings and weekends.

Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree with three years’ experience in fundraising, business development, professional sales, marketing, communications, or other relationship-intensive work. (or equivalent combination of training and experience).

  • Ability to develop people and project leadership skills.

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to clearly demonstrate alignment between a project’s goals and the needs of the end user.

  • A self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with team.
