Rate of Pay: Payband 10 ($87,239 - $109,049 per year)

Job Summary

Mohawk College is undertaking a major digital transformation through the Banner Business Transformation Project, reimagining our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, Banner and related processes, to enhance the student, faculty, and staff experience.

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Reporting BBT and Stream Lead Reporting, and working closely with Human Resources, Finance, Budget and Planning, Student Services and Academic management, the Corporate Reporting Analyst will serve as a key resource on the Banner Business Transformation project and develop processes/reports, methodologies, and analytical solutions to support and develop each of these areas.

Business Intelligence (BI) is a set of methodologies, processes, architectures, and technologies that transform raw data into meaningful and useful information to enable more effective strategic, tactical, and operational insights and decision-making. Therefore, the BI portion of the role is to strategically implement BI software and systems, including integration with databases and data warehouses.

Data mining and analytics differ from BI in that it is a technique that attempts to show statistical correlation and cause between disparate sources of information or look at data in new and unexpected ways.

This position requires a thorough understanding of the requests of all the Divisions/areas of the College, so that appropriate solutions are developed and deployed. These solutions require providing reports and analytical guidance on sensitive matters related to employee, student and financial matters so it is incumbent on these individuals to adhere to corporate privacy and security policies.

What you’ll be doing:

Operational Management

  • Directs, organizes and leads sub-projects in the implementation and use of new reporting and analytics software tools and systems.
  • Assists in the integration efforts for merging reporting and analytics platforms and services with enterprise systems and applications.
  • Designs, codes, tests, and documents all new or modified reporting and analytics systems, applications and programs.
  • Assists in development of the semantic layer, metadata, reports and report definitions.
  • Consults with business stakeholders to elicit requirements to develop dashboards, scorecards, reports, graphs and analytical models that support each client’s specific business needs and to drive data-informed decision making
  • Assists in the design of databases and data warehouses to ensure interoperability with reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Analyses user requirements and based on findings, design functional specifications for reporting and analytics front-end applications.
  • Works with project managers to ensure that data entry, retrieval, change and delete functions meet business requirements for project completion.
  • Designs and delivers end-user training and training materials; provides technical and analytical support.
  • Troubleshoots reporting and analytics tools, systems and software; performance-tune these applications as necessary.
  • Leads advocacy for reporting and analytics solutions at the institutional level, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and policies. Provides end-user training on reporting and analytics software and frequently used reports to the organization.

Strategy & Planning

  • Assists in assessing and cultivates long-term strategic goals for reporting and analytics development in conjunction with end users, managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Creates data mining architectures, coding standards, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies to drive business insights.
  • Development of processes to ensure compliance with Ministry mandates, providing validated data that informs institutional budgeting and performance grant funding.
  • Provides recommendations on the development and implementation of data governance frameworks and institutional reporting policies, ensuring data integrity and alignment with strategic objectives.

Deployment

  • Conducts research and makes recommendations on reporting and analytics products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Evaluates and selects database/data warehouse components, including hardware, relational database management systems, Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) software, metadata management tools and database design solutions. This includes blueprinting, gathering requirements, designing, and rolling out analytics and reporting solutions to end users.
  • The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring high levels of analytics and reporting availability and will support adoption and deployment with sound technical skills and thorough understanding of business needs.

Other duties as assigned

  • Includes the continued support for applications and processes that support the Information Systems mandate and deliverables.
  • Elicits end-user requirements and specifications to recommend solutions for custom data extracts, analysis, and visualization or reporting options to meet needs of diverse stakeholders.
  • Identifies opportunities, proposes and enacts solutions to enhance organizational efficiency and improve access to timely and relevant institutional data and metrics

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • A three-year diploma/degree in such disciplines as Computer Science, Math and Statistics, or a related field is required at the point of hire into this position.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar capacity.
  • Experience with tier-one applications, databases, data processing, and data warehouses flowcharting techniques
  • Able to work autonomously, prioritize workload, and to deliver results to meet timelines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Expertise in reporting and analytics tools.
  • Strong ability to elicit and analyze user requirements to recommend, design, and build front-end reporting and analytics applications according to user needs and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of data models, structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Strong familiarity with data preparation, processing, classification, analysis, and forecasting.
  • Strong understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data and create presentations for data outputs to guide insights on recommendations.
  • Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong understanding of SQL.
  • Working Knowledge of PL/SQL.
  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence Software (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Cognos Analytics, Metabase) would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
