About the role
This is an excellent opportunity for lawyers with experience in personal injury litigation who are interested in expanding their practice into broader areas of general civil litigation.
You'll have the opportunity to manage your own files, appear in court, work closely with experienced legal professionals, and grow your litigation career within a collaborative and supportive environment.
Responsibilities
Manage a diverse caseload of civil litigation matters from inception through resolution. Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, discoveries, motions, and court proceedings. Prepare pleadings, affidavits, legal briefs, and other litigation documents. Conduct legal research and develop effective litigation strategies. Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and other stakeholders. Attend hearings, case conferences, mediations, and trials as required. Provide practical legal advice while maintaining a high standard of client service. Collaborate with colleagues on complex litigation matters and contribute to team success. Develop expertise across a broad range of civil litigation matters beyond personal injury.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of post-call experience practicing civil litigation. Experience handling personal injury litigation is considered a strong asset. Strong advocacy, negotiation, and courtroom skills. Excellent legal research, drafting, and analytical abilities. Ability to independently manage files while meeting deadlines. Strong interpersonal, communication, and client relationship skills. Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta, or eligible for membership.
