About the Role
The Specialist/Analyst, Energy Markets & Policy will be supporting PowerCo’s renewable and carbon-free electricity supply for the St. Thomas factory. The Energy Markets & Policy Specialist will assist PowerCo’s energy procurement strategy through data-driven analysis and internal collaboration. The contribution of the Specialist, Energy Markets & Policy, will have a considerable impact on PowerCo's market positioning and energy prices.
This is a flex hybrid work structure, where employees can work both remotely and on-site at our St. Thomas location.
Key Responsibilities
Energy Budgeting & Invoice Verification (30%)

Support the preparation of energy cost forecasts and budgets in collaboration with Operations’ team.

Verify utility and supplier invoices for accuracy, flag discrepancies, and support resolution with utilities, suppliers, and province’s energy regulators.

Track actual vs. forecasted energy spend and provide variance analysis.
Energy Procurement Support (30%)
-
Assist in the execution of energy procurement activities, including gathering and analyzing supplier quotes and contract terms.

Support the onboarding of new energy suppliers in internal supplier management systems, ensuring accurate data entry and compliance with internal processes.

Maintain procurement records and assist in preparing documentation for internal approvals.
Market & Regulatory Analysis (20%)

Energy Invoice & Budget Management
-
Skilled with handling and analyzing large energy cost and consumption datasets. Specific experience with verifying electricity invoices, preparing energy budgets, and conducting energy spend variance analysis will be preferred.
Energy Procurement Support
- Understanding of energy procurement workflows, including quote analysis, supplier onboarding in internal supplier management systems, and contract tracking.
Market & Regulatory Awareness

Ability to monitor and interpret market trends and regulatory updates, especially within the Ontario energy landscape.
What you bring to the Team
-
Master’s degree in Mechanical/Civil/Electrical/Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Energy Economics, Renewable Energy Markets or a related field.
-
Equivalent relevant work experience with energy utilities, energy suppliers, or energy data analytics.
Experience:
-
1-3 years of experience with procuring electricity for large industrial companies, or managing large industrial accounts with energy utilities/suppliers, or electricity market analysis of big energy consumers. Exposure to Ontario electricity markets (e.g., Market Renewal Program, Global Adjustment) is an asset but not required.

Familiarity with energy price-breakdown analysis / budgeting, invoice verification, and supplier onboarding processes.

Familiarity with development and financing of renewable energy projects will be a plus.

Data Analysis & Tools

Proficient with MS Office Suite (especially MS-Excel, MS-PowerPoint, MS-Outlook), PowerBI, Tableau and other analytical tools to manage energy data, budgets, and forecasts. Experience with SAP is advantageous.
