Job Description Cavendish Farms is seeking a skilled and dependable Farm Mechanic to support our farming operations by maintaining and repairing a wide range of agricultural and fleet equipment. This hands-on role is critical to ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting efficient farm operations throughout the growing and harvesting seasons.
It is a permanent full-time hourly role.
Work Location: 1030 Greeno Rd, Chapman Settlement, NS
Department: Farming Operations
Reports To: Farm Manager
Working Conditions
- Approximately 70% indoor / 30% outdoor work environment
- Exposure to farm equipment, noise, grease, and seasonal weather conditions
What Success Looks Like
- Reliable, well-maintained equipment with minimal downtime
- Timely completion of daily and weekly maintenance tasks
- Positive collaboration with farm leadership and team members
- Consistent adherence to safety and quality standards
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair agricultural and fleet equipment, including planting, harvesting, tillage, warehouse equipment, tractors, forklifts, and skid steers
- Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance such as cleaning, lubricating, calibrating, and inspecting equipment
- Install, attach, adjust, test, and tune equipment components to ensure optimal performance
- Maintain inventory of tools, parts, lubricants, and general maintenance supplies
- Complete required maintenance records, reports, and documentation accurately and on time
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Collaborate with farm operations and other internal teams to support projects and operational initiatives
Qualifications
- High school diploma (preferred)
- Mechanical experience, ideally with agricultural or heavy equipment (preferred)
- Some farming or agricultural operations experience (preferred)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Willingness and ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
