What we offer
Reporting to the VP, Technology, the Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering (Modular) will be accountable for thought leadership and tactical execution on the design, build, and commissioning of the modular business unit within a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. The environment will be highly process- and data-focused to drive best-in-class optimization. The role will lead factory and process design and drive continuous improvement, partnering closely with the General Manager, VP Technology, and Director, Housing Solutions. The ideal individual will have significant expertise in engineering, manufacturing, continuous improvement initiatives, managing growth, and successfully implementing new manufacturing methodologies and technologies.
What you’ll do
- Manage factory design process, and in collaboration with the Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering (Panels), ensure seamless intersection of panel and modular manufacturing units:
- Factory design and layout
- Flow of goods within and between production areas and business units
- Manufacturing processes and requirements
- Project manage and be responsible for “all things factory”, from concept to implementation.
- Lead manufacturing engineering activities, including ensuring manufacturing capabilities meet current and future needs.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures and KPIs within the manufacturing environment.
- In collaboration with Stelumar stakeholders, and with Mattamy as the developer, participate in product design from a manufacturing standpoint.
- Design, develop, and implement a robust quality assurance program:
- Obtain and maintain CSA approval.
- Design, document, and update quality control standards, metrics, reporting, auditing processes.
- Develop and implement quality assurance protocols to ensure compliance with company standards and Ontario Building Code requirements.
- Analyze manufacturing data and key metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement; lead continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Kaizen events) and train others.
- Hire, supervise, coach, and oversee employees.
- Plan and implement changes to machinery, production systems, and methods of work.
- Establish and lead the manufacturing safety program, ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and continuously improving safety performance.
- Other duties as required.
What you bring
- Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or similar; P.Eng. and MBA strongly preferred.
- Ten or more years of progressive manufacturing experience.
- Experience in modular, residential, or large-scale wood-based manufacturing environments preferred.
- Entrepreneurial mindset; hands-on experience in the set-up of new manufacturing plants.
- Familiarity with MES and ERP systems and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; demonstrated expertise in leadership and collaboration.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
Bonus Points
- Lean Six Sigma, PMP designations an asset
- Previous exposure to highly complex and process-driven assembly/manufacturing environments preferred
- Experience with off-site or panelized construction in a regulated environment (CSA, Ontario Building Code) preferred
