ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Town of Gibsons is seeking an experienced and people-focused Operations Superintendent to lead our Public Works, Parks, Wastewater Treatment, and Water Distribution teams. Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Services, this position plays a key leadership role in ensuring the effective maintenance and operation of the Town’s critical infrastructure.

This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone who inspires excellence through mentorship, teamwork, and accountability. EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in public works, operations, maintenance, or engineering, including at least three (3) years in a leadership role, preferably in local government

  • Diploma in engineering, technology, planning, or a related discipline from an accredited post-secondary institution (a combination of education and experience may be considered)

  • Experience supervising unionized staff, including coaching, performance management, and safety leadership

  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and oversee infrastructure operations

  • Experience with budgeting, scheduling, and workforce planning

  • EOCP certifications (e.g., Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, or Wastewater Treatment)

  • Senior-level experience in wastewater operations

  • Familiarity with asset management and life-cycle costing principles

  • Experience with public consultation and working with elected officials

  • Knowledge of municipal bylaws, service delivery standards, and environmental regulations

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with SCADA systems is an asset

  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • May be required to respond to emergencies and system alarms outside of regular hours

  • Occasional attendance at Council or committee meetings may be required

  • A satisfactory criminal record check will be required prior to employment

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The base salary range for this role is $88,239 to $111,597, compensation above this range may be considered for exceptional candidates. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including but not limited to, education and other qualifications, years of relevant experience, market rates and internal equity.
