National Transport Team Leader

What you'll do on a typical day:
Transportation Management:
-
Develop, implement, and oversee national transportation strategies to optimize cost, efficiency, and service quality.

Manage inbound and outbound transportation activities across all regions.
-
Oversee carrier selection, performance evaluation, and contract negotiations.
-
Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial/state, and local transportation regulations.
Operational Leadership:
-
Lead, mentor, and develop the traffic/logistics team to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
-
Establish KPIs and dashboards to monitor transportation performance (on-time delivery, cost per shipment, carrier performance, etc.).
-
Collaborate with plants, warehouses, and distribution centers to streamline shipping and receiving processes.
-
Coordinate with Customer Service, Sales, and Supply Chain teams to address service issues and implement process improvements.
Cost & Process Optimization:
-
Identify opportunities for cost savings through carrier negotiations, route optimization, and improved utilization of assets.
-
Implement and maintain transportation management systems (TMS) and other tools for tracking and reporting.
-
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supply chain efficiency and sustainability.
Compliance & Risk Management:
-
Ensure adherence to all DOT/transportation regulations and company safety standards.
-
Manage risk by developing contingency plans for potential disruptions (e.g., strikes, weather, fuel shortages).
-
Maintain accurate records for audits and reporting requirements.
Reporting & Compliance:
- Expansion of reporting on branch transfers, with the goal of optimizing volume/weight of loads.
- Monthly reporting on the costs associated with direct to customer freight, segregated from branch transfers.
- Creation of a report outlining the % of trucks moving through the individual yards that are PERI vs. customer organized to understand regional demand.
- Assuming the review and approval of carrier invoices in AFI.
- Monthly review of customer freight recovery rate, analyzing and identifying areas for improvement.
What you'll need to be successful:
- A degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in Transportation, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations (DOT, provincial/state, and federal compliance).
- Proven experience in vendor negotiations, contract management, and performance evaluations.
- Results-oriented mindset with a track record of driving cost savings, efficiency improvements, and service excellence.
