The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated, confident and results oriented engineer, for the position of Engineer, Environmental Programs to perform regulatory and petroleum engineering functions for oil and gas resources in the province within The Environmental Programs Group, Resource Management Branch, of The Ministry of Energy and Resources. This position supports the emissions management and air quality regulations in the province’s upstream oil and gas sector, conducts engineering evaluations, and reviews technical applications from the petroleum industry. You will represent the Resource Management Branch on working groups and committees consisting of federal, provincial and industry officials related to responsibilities as required, while completing the following:

  • Conduct research, analysis, evaluations and assessments on regulations, standards and policies;
  • Conduct engineering and technical evaluations, and review industry proposals;
  • Acquire and analyze emissions data to inform regulatory and policy decisions;
  • Advance oil and gas regulatory changes;
  • Interpret and apply applicable federal and provincial legislation and policies, programs and agreements related to the oil and gas industry;
  • Define problems, select, and apply appropriate research methods to analyze and develop options, solutions, and recommendations;
  • Evaluate technical projects and studies, and present findings to technical/non-technical audiences;
  • Explain complex legislation, policies, technical processes, and technologies in an easily understood manner, (share strategies and requirements with stakeholders);
  • Participate in developing new or modifying existing regulations and processes, and
  • Complete projects and manage associated process systems.

The Candidate

The successful candidate is an analytical, forward-thinking engineer, who is thorough, self-motivated, conscientious, detail oriented, organized, multitasks in a high-volume environment, and has a strong work ethic. Your interpersonal skills allow for independent and collaborative work with co-workers, agencies, and others to meet client needs and work objectives. You easily establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships with diverse client groups including industry, other governments and agencies, and the public.

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, you will possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and be registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan -APEGS, (proof of eligibility for registration is required). You will have sound knowledge of and direct experience in petroleum engineering and legislation governing the oil and gas industry.
