Description:
As an Estimator you will support projects that span multiple disciplines within our organization in order to deliver high quality and sustainable solutions to our clients.
Your experience in the industry and/or consulting, as well as your project and people skills will enable you to make a difference in our industry and inspire new and better ways to implement engineering and water management solutions.
We can consider candidates across all our Canadian offices, including Vancouver, Calgary, and Saskatoon.
Responsibilities:
- Execute project estimates as required to be fit for purpose per the project/client requirements (this may be AACEI defined or a modified version as the project dictates).
- Develop estimating tools and standards and lead the consistent and optimized operation and use of estimating processes.
- Coordinate and plan multiple estimates simultaneously.
- Review multiple estimates that vary in size and complexity to ensure that workloads are appropriate and performance levels are maintained.
- Regularly, review, monitor and report on the overall progress of estimates being provided against required delivery times.
- Expedite required inputs to the project estimate by working with the other engineering Discipline(s), Project Manager(s), and Project Engineer(s).
- Challenge Project teams for alternatives to improve project performance, reduce project costs.
- Provide mentorship/guidance to other team members and extended teams.
- Understand all levels of estimates: Pre-Scoping, Scoping, DBM, FEED, Execute, Design Build, and Construction.
- Must be able to work on estimates for new projects, sustaining projects and field turnaround-type projects.
- Coordinate and Participate in all interactive estimate reviews related to the project estimates.
- Review Engineering Work Breakdown Structures for the Projects, Budget, and Schedule Baselines, prepare Owner's Scope estimates, and review Capital Cost Estimates including coordination with PMs/PE’s as required to meet project objectives and expectations.
- Develop and Maintain Estimating database systems to ensure they are kept up-to-date – to be coordinated with Project Services (Procurement) to validate and incorporate actual pricing.
- Apply estimating expertise to mining-related projects, including surface and underground infrastructure, earthworks, processing facilities, tailings management, and water management systems.
- Incorporate knowledge of mine development, materials handling, and construction sequencing into cost models to ensure realistic, defendable estimates.
- Complete administrative duties appropriate and necessary for the smooth implementation of the job role within the assigned project.
Position Qualifications:
- 8+ years related experience or appropriate combination of education and experience in preparing cost estimates.
- Certification from PMI or AACEI is an asset.
- Direct experience in mining or heavy industrial projects is considered a strong asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Experience in procurement, cost controls, or project engineering is considered an asset.
- Estimating Database Development is an asset.
- Strong skills in the areas of planning, estimating, and budgeting.
- Demonstrated experience in estimating strategies and techniques across a variety of project sizes and industries.
- Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals for typical items and scopes where design and/or schematics have been provided.
- Familiarity with mining-specific cost drivers such as haul distances, pit optimization, equipment productivity, geotechnical constraints, and remote site logistics.
- Consistently performs investigations of each tender, is able to interpret field constraints and incorporates findings into bids to ensure constructability.
- Ability to interpret specifications as they pertain to all project scope, including risk
- Good critical and conceptual thinking skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Good organizational and time management skills as well as the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Must be legally able to work in Canada.
