Job Description Are you ready to make waves in the shipbuilding industry? We're seeking a Senior Production Engineer to join our dynamic, multi-disciplinary team working on the cutting-edge River-Class Destroyer (RCD) program. This is a high-impact role where your expertise will ensure the vessel is built in alignment with the design intent, contributing directly to the success of one of Canada’s most advanced naval projects.

This opportunity is ideal for professionals with backgrounds in Mechanical, Electrical, Naval Architecture, Manufacturing, or Production Engineering who thrive in complex, fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage planned and emergent work within your assigned scope.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet project goals.
  • Develop complex deliverables and statements of work for subcontractors.
  • Review and approve technical documentation and engineering products.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies within your discipline.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes.
  • Ensure production drawings are accurate and practical for construction.
  • Interpret technical design standards and translate them into actionable production requirements.
  • Prepare detailed Manufacturing Instructions (MIs) for specialized procedures.
  • Review and socialize Vendor Furnished Information (VFI), including installation and care instructions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent; Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of maritime regulatory bodies (e.g., LR, TC, IMO) and industry standards (ASME, IEEE, ASTM).
  • Expertise in ship-specific disciplines such as hull structure, piping systems, propulsion, HVAC, electrical, and manufacturing.
  • Passion for naval and modern ship design and construction.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in ship design, construction, or complex industrial manufacturing.
  • Proven experience as a cognizant engineer or technical owner of ship systems or shipyard functions.
  • Strong technical skills: blueprint reading, 3D model navigation, drawing development, and technical documentation.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
