**Position Purpose:**The Toronto Zoo is currently recruiting seasonal staff to work in our Strategic Communications Branch. This position is responsible for providing support in the areas of developing content for the Toronto Zoo app, digital monitors, social media and traditional media, coordinating contests and promotions, capturing and editing photos/videos, creating graphics, and other administrative tasks as assigned.

##Core Role Responsibilities:

  • Support the Toronto Zoo app content and updating
  • Assist in creating graphics for and support the digital screen content planning
  • Assist with the coordination of Toronto Zoo promotions and contests, including prize fulfillment.
  • Assist with developing communications for social media (ex: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Assist with developing communications for traditional media (ex: newspaper, radio).
  • Support media relations activity and filming requests as required
  • Capturing and editing photos and videos.
  • Assist with the coordination of special marketing and communications projects as required by the Supervisor or Manager.
  • Support of Sponsorship and Partnerships as required.
  • Assist in maintaining Strategic Communications records, files, databases, mailing lists and correspondence.
  • Respond to telephone, website and general inquiries from the public and other organizations when required.
  • Prepare responses to general correspondence when required.
  • Support guest relations with crowd control and guest experience needs as required.
  • Other related duties as requested by the Supervisor and/or Manager.

##Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working towards a certificate or diploma in Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Graphic Design or a related field of study at Community College or University level, or the equivalent amount of experience and training.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
  • Photography/Videography experience.
  • Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Experience with copywriting for social media and/or traditional media.
  • Understanding of corporate social media platforms, to include, but not be limited to: Facebook, Linkedin, Pintrest, X, Youtube, Flickr, Instagram.
  • Knowledge of wildlife science and/or conservation (animal facts, behaviours, identifying species) an asset.
  • Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be highly organized and able to meet competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively or in a team setting.
  • Must be capable of performing light physical demands which may be related to the job.
  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have demonstrated superb written and verbal communication skills, bilingualism is considered an asset.
  • Valid Class-G driver’s license in good standing is required.
