Job Description This job posting will run concurrently for internal and external applicants. However, for the first seven (7) calendar days, current employees of Kingston Harbour Light Ministries that are members of IAMAW Local 1295 will receive hiring preference. Position Purpose Summary The priority of the Residential Care Worker is to ensure professional, safe and structured support to our clients in the Kingston Harbour Light program. The Residential Care Worker will behave professionally and courteously at all times, presenting a positive impression of Kingston Harbour Light to both the public and the clients living within the facility. The RCW will document accurately and appropriately all contacts with clients and members of the public, and ensure the safety of the environment at all times.

Responsibilities And Activities

  • To monitor activities of clients as required
  • To provide any requested information, assist with Client orientation to guidelines and schedules
  • To oversee and assist with supervision of clients during daily tasks, as needed
  • To provide support, assistance & encouragement to clients
  • Perform all daily client documentation in EMHware as required and maintain log Book entries, sign Out Sheets, visitor information and other required forms
  • Ensure Correctional Services Canada (CSC) compliance as it relates to offender whereabouts, community check ins, alignment with offender community supervision orders, documentation and policy
  • To make necessary referrals to other staff as needed
  • To make public announcements for clients or staff as necessary
  • To conduct scheduled rounds of all areas of property and be familiar with all required fire, health and safety measures and procedures. Supervise fire evacuation and safety procedures during shift
  • To conduct client room inspections as required
  • To monitor client activities in smoking Area as required
  • To take client attendance at scheduled activities as required
  • To ensure that clients’ late-night snack is made available at scheduled time
  • To provide accurate and timely conduct reports on client activity to Program Coordinator
  • To answer the telephone, routing calls to appropriate department(s) and staff
  • Participation in required oversight of clients as directed by the Funder
  • To check pockets, packages and bags of clients returning from off-property activities
  • To attend all seminars, training sessions or staff meetings as required
  • Complete other tasks as required

The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct. Education And Experience Qualifications

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Protected B Clearance that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Education, Qualifications And Certifications

  • Diploma in one of the Human Services professions
  • Basic First Aid/CPR Certification is an asset
  • Alternate combinations of education and experience may be considered

Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Documentation skills in in a computerized format, knowledge of EMHware would be considered an asset
  • Keyboarding and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications as well as email and internet applications
  • Networking, referrals and strong knowledge of resources
  • Knowledge and experience with concurrent disorders
  • Knowledge of culturally competent practices
  • Knowledge and experience with CSC and working with offenders
  • Awareness and experience with marginalized and vulnerable populations
  • Proficient in English language, second language an asset

Skills And Capabilities

  • Deal tactfully and courteously with clients, public, volunteers and staff
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to follow direction and work in a team environment
  • Ability to identify gaps in knowledge and focus on continuous learning in coordination with supervisor

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Program Coordinator, counsellors & staff within agency, outside agencies.

Managerial/Technical Leadership Responsibility

  • Reports directly to: Program Coordinator

Working Conditions

  • Office setting, long periods standing, climbing stairs, using computer, phone systems
  • Little to no travel

Broad Record Check: an original copy of a current Broad Record Check (BRC) that is less than six (6) months old is required by your start date, and the results of the check must be acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.

Compensation: Please note that this job falls under a collective agreement. The hourly rate for the position is set at $18.63, and wage increments are provided based on collective agreement language.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
