About the role

The Biologics Manufacturing Center ( BMC ) Inc. is a new biomanufacturing facility created in response to the pandemic. A not-for-profit organization, the BMC aims to better meet the biopharmaceutical needs of Canadians. The BMC helps support projects of public interest, actively contributes to the overall growth and resilience of the Canadian life sciences industry and fosters industry development and innovation through Canadian production. We are looking for a Maintenance Technician who will be responsible for the maintenance of facilities and equipment and systems. He or she will participate in the installation and startup of new equipment/utilities, training of technologists, and the implementation of an effective and efficient maintenance program.

Responsabilites include:

  • Diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on production equipment and mechanical systems, certain laboratory and warehouse equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections of mechanical systems.
  • Adhere to the work execution schedule, document according to current procedures. Ensure that activities are completed on time and successfully. In case of failure, inform the supervisor and document non-conformities, investigate and determine efficient CAPAs to prevent recurrence.
  • Operate mechanical systems and building utilities (HVAC, purified water, water for injection (WFI), compressed air system, etc.).
  • Operate building security systems (alarm systems, access control systems, and camera systems, etc.).
  • Make recommendations regarding the maintenance, improvement, and replacement of facilities and equipment.
  • Participate in the implementation of corrective and preventive maintenance processes and programs.
  • Participate in the drafting and revision of work instructions for preventive maintenance.
  • Provide technical support to production and participate in engineering projects and the validation of equipment and systems.
  • Accompany subcontractors and supervise the work performed.
  • Organize and maintain the mechanical workshop in order.
  • Actively participate in shutdown activities and subsequent restarts.
  • Write, revise, and fill out quality documents related to equipment.
  • Manage spare parts inventory.
  • Complete work orders and other documents prior to modifications on equipment.
  • Respect and promote Health and Safety practices, processes, and procedures.
  • Participate in the implementation of a reliability program for equipment and systems.
  • Participate in the on-call schedule.

  • You hold a vocational or technical diploma in electromechanics, industrial maintenance, or a related field.
  • You have at least 3 years of experience in industrial maintenance within a regulated environment (GMP, ISO, HACCP, etc.).
  • A combination of equivalent experience and education may be considered.
  • You are comfortable using a CMMS – we use Blue Mountain.
  • You are able to communicate and complete documentation in French.
  • You are able to read technical documentation in English.
  • You are available to be on call on a rotating schedule, including evenings, nights, and weekends.

It supports the growth of the country's biologics production capacity, ensuring that vaccines and other related products can be manufactured safely, right here at home. Thanks to its state-of-the-art facilities and the knowledge of its team, the BMC can produce biopharmaceutical products such as viral vector, protein subunit and virus-like particle vaccines, as well as other biological products. It is a key player in Canada's ability to respond rapidly to future national and global health emergencies.
