The salary range for this position is:

  • Recruitment range: $69,052- $76,129 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
  • Performance range: $89,791 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

Mandate:
One of four departments with the Division of Student Affairs, Wellness, Recreation and Athletics offers eight high performance varsity sport programs (soccer, rugby, basketball, and field-hockey, cross country/track, rowing, swimming and golf), competitive intramural and sport clubs, and a broad array of recreation, health and wellness programs to the university and broader community. Wellness, Recreation and Athletics’ commitment to excellence in sport, health and wellness, and customer service make it a key contributor to student success on campus, and the department plays a critical role in student recruitment, retention and success.

Objectives:
The Inclusion and Wellness Coordinator, under the guidance of the Director of Recreation, Marketing and Engagement, plays a pivotal role in facilitating the development and execution of inclusive and accessible programming initiatives for the UVic and Greater Victoria Area community. This position involves collaboration with colleagues to identify, plan, implement, and evaluate inclusive, holistic recreation and wellness programs tailored to the diverse needs of participants. The Inclusion and Wellness Coordinator will actively foster relationships, both within UVic and with external community partners, to advance the university's commitment to equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion. This position requires the flexibility to work evenings and weekends according to operational requirements.

Job Requirements

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Education, Social Work, Disability Studies, Recreation) and 2 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Experience should include:

  • Experience in program development and evaluation, especially within an inclusive and accessible framework.

  • Training or certification in accessibility and inclusion best practices.

  • Familiarity with adaptive recreation programs and services.

  • Experience creating recreation programs.

  • Familiarity with recreation program software (such as Fusion)

  • Experience working with various social media platforms and how each network can be optimally applied in different scenarios.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment.
  • Commitment to valuing all faith traditions and spiritual exploration.
  • Sensitivity to the unique needs of individuals with diverse abilities and mental health challenges.
  • Understanding and learning in decolonial approaches, including the decolonization of Western paradigms and social norms, with an ongoing commitment to fostering respect and reconciliation in the context of student health and well-being.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to apply project management best practices to achieve project goals on time.
  • Excellent critical thinking, influence management and problem-solving skills.
