The aim of the Wilp D’Mootxw – Nec’a Yikh “The Healing House” is to improve access to primary health care services and traditional wellness services for First Nations people in a way that is culturally safe and closer to home.

Title: Medical Office Assistant
Salary: $59,336 - $74,169 - $81,586 per year (pay range explained below)
Contract: This term position ending March 2027 with the FNHA has the possibility of extension. When the term position ends with the FNHA, it is intended that this
position will be offered as a permanent role with the Wilp D’Mootxw – Nec’a Yikh “The Healing House” Primary Care Centre
Hours: 7.5 hours (core hours 9am-3pm Mon-Fri)
Location: Wilp D’Mootxw – Nec’a Yikh “The Healing House” Primary Care Centre, New Hazelton, BC, located on the ancestral territories of the Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en Nations – Onsite

About the role
The Wilp D’Mootxw – Nec’a Yikh “The Healing House” Primary Care Centre is envisioned to work as part of a strategic integrated system within a culturally safe model that integrates family, and community supports consistent with a no barriers to care model. The centre is enriched with the traditions and culture of the Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en communities in a warm and welcoming space, working in harmony with existing health services and with no barriers to care.

As Medical Office Assistant, you will be a key member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary primary care team that delivers trauma-informed, culturally safe care to support client health and wellness. You will provide essential administrative support to the daily operations of the Centre, coordinating staff and resources through the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in alignment with program workflows.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have/be –

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from a Medical Office Assistant Certificate Program from an accredited Community College.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a medical practice with knowledge in EMR, encounter coding, data and administrative processes, human resource management principles and practices, and current scheduling practices, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of medical terminology - especially related to mental health and substance use - and familiarity with MSP billing practices and fee codes.
  • Proficient in using technology and virtual platforms including EMRs, Microsoft Office Suite, and Zoom.
  • Skilled in de-escalation, supportive communication, and maintaining confidentiality in patient care.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License required.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities or health service organizations is an asset.

The Pay Range is the minimum and maximum annual salary based on full time equivalent hours.
Incumbents are typically hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in relation to the role requirements.
The top 10% of the pay range is for the incumbents who are industry experts in the job with the combination of exceptional experience and competencies needed to perform all duties and responsibilities at a superior capability level. Internal employee compensation will be determined as per the FNHA Employee Total Compensation Policy.
