The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provides the residents of the Northwest Territories with access to quality programs, services and support to assist them in making informed and productive choices for themselves and their families with regard to education, training, careers, employment and labour, child development, languages, culture and heritage.
Job Information
We are seeking an experienced Access to Information and Privacy Specialist to lead and manage its compliance with the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPP) and related privacy legislation.
As the departmental expert, the Specialist will be responsible for developing and maintaining a privacy governance framework, managing privacy risk, and providing strategic direction to ensure legislative compliance across all program areas. This position plays a critical role in overseeing ATIPP requests, privacy impact assessments, breach investigations, and policy development, while advising senior leadership on complex, sensitive privacy matters.
Key Responsibilities**:**
- Lead and manage the department's access to information and privacy programs.
- Interpret and apply privacy legislation to departmental operations.
- Oversee ATIPP request coordination, privacy breach investigations, and privacy risk assessments.
- Develop and deliver privacy training, policies, and procedures.
- Liaise with GNWT departments, the Access and Privacy Office, and the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
- Provide expert advice to senior management on legal obligations and risk mitigation strategies.
To be successful in this role, typically the above qualifications would be attained by:
A university degree in Law, Public Administration, Library Science or Records/Information Management, or another related field, and two (2) years of relevant experience.
