About the role

Overview:

  • A leading Canadian bank, is seeking a Director of Capital Reporting Technology to spearhead a transformation initiative within the Capital Markets Finance function.

  • This senior, high-impact role focuses on modernizing and automating management reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger (GL) processes by replacing manual Excel-based workflows with scalable, auditable technology platforms.

  • The Director will lead the design and implementation of enterprise-grade solutions, shaping the future of the firm’s capital reporting capabilities through strategic vision and hands-on execution.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end analysis and design of enterprise-grade solutions to automate management reporting, reconciliations, GL tracking, and document governance.

  • Evaluate current manual Excel-based processes and recommend automation-driven improvements.

  • Assess and implement workflow tools (e.g., Power Automate) to manage document tracking, audit schedules, risk-based reporting frequencies, and control environments.

  • Collaborate with Finance, Risk, Audit, and Technology stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into platform functionality.

  • Define and implement a governance framework to support internal audits, track control trails, and ensure reporting frequency compliance.

  • Partner with vendors specializing in capital reporting technologies to lead platform selection and engagement.

  • Design or oversee the development of an application capable of:

  • Consuming input from source systems and feeding data into the data lake.

  • Identifying data breaks.

  • Producing consolidated P&L and balance sheet views.

  • Enabling audit trails and control tracking.

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders (e.g., Bharat, Young Dang) to ensure alignment across initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in Capital Markets, Financial Reporting, or Technology Enablement roles within large financial institutions.

  • Proven expertise in designing and delivering enterprise reporting solutions, particularly for Capital Reporting, P&L, and Balance Sheet control.

  • Strong knowledge of audit processes, internal controls, and regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Experience leading reporting modernization projects, including workflow automation, data governance, and platform builds.

  • Familiarity with Power Automate, data lakes, and enterprise reporting architectures.

  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Ability to work independently as a sole contributor in the early phases, with potential to scale responsibilities and team size.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with vendors focused on Capital Reporting solutions.

  • Technical background in platform development or data engineering.

  • Familiarity with banking systems, processes, or similar Canadian banking institutions.

Initial 90-Day Goals

  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of current workflows and reporting architecture.

  • Propose and initiate implementation of automated solutions for workflows and reconciliations.

  • Deliver tangible results in data flow improvements, control enhancements, and reporting consistency.
