Job Description
Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager, the Women and Children’s Occupational Therapist is part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team,
providing intervention, follow up care and education to patients attending the Women’s and Children’s complex, subspeciality, Paediatric Outpatient clinics. This role is also integrated into the inpatient Neonatal Intensive Care and Paediatric units where patient assessments,
interventions, and discharge planning occur in collaboration with is required. This role will support the Women and Children’s program operations related to the scope of practice for occupational therapists including 1:1 patient visits and group sessions at all Osler locations, as well as collaborate with departments outside the Women and Children’s program engaged in overlapping patient care, as needed and directed by the leadership team.
Qualifications
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works collaboratively with the patient and family, allied health team, nursing, and pediatricians to manage medical care using a paediatric-focused
approach, through history taking, creating and implementing a plan of care, monitoring, and evaluating patient outcomes on an ongoing basis,
and provide recommendations for discharge planning
- Administers standardized and on-standardized assessments of infant and toddler feeding and development
- Provides individual and group-based (virtual or in-person) education sessions on development and feeding
- Readily available for patient consultation requests from members of the Women’s and Children’s team
- Provides care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment
- Provides OT services to the NICU/inpatient paediatric units
- Supports Mental Health Program with educational group sessions related to Women and Children’s perinatal mental health
QUALIFICATIONS:
B.Sc. or or equivaent in Occupational Therapy
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Membership in CAOT or OSOT
- Recent experience in Neonatal and Paediatrics within last 2 years required
- Experience in infant and toddler feeding assessment and treatment required
- Knowledge of infant and toddler development and experience with neurodevelopment assessment and treatment preferred
- Experience with preterm, medically fragile and complex patients between 0-3 years of age
- Experience with relevant assessment tools, including Alberta Infant Motor Scale, Erhardt Fine motor Developmental Prehension Assessment and
Early Screening Inventory preferred
- Experience in infant feeding assessment and treatment, as well as neurodevelopment assessment and treatment
- Experience working in inpatient and outpatient settings with children from 0-3 years of age experiencing both feeding concerns and developmental delays
- Demonstrated ability to manage high caseload volumes
- Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with excellent time management and organizational skills required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
- Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills required
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension)
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and work record
- May be required to travel between and work at all hospital sites
Additional Information
Hours: Currently days/nights, 8 hours shifts including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
Salary:
Minimum: $41.73 per hour
Maximum: $54.79 per hour
