Course Description:
Introduction to cultural perspectives on the environment: the influence of culture and cognition on perceptions of the natural world; conflicts in orders of knowledge (models, taxonomies, paradigms, theories, cosmologies), ethics (moral values, frameworks, dilemmas), and law (formal and customary, rights and obligations) regarding political dimensions of critical environments, resource use, and technologies.
Qualifications and Position Summary:
- Grading essays and exams in consultation with instructor
- Maintaining regular office hours for meeting students
- Assists in invigilation of mid-term and final exams
- Excellent spoken and written English and knowledge of French an asset
- Solid grounding in Humanities and/or Social Sciences, including Anthropology, Sociology, Human Geography, Law, Philosophy, History and in Environmental Studies
- Effective organizational skills
- Previous participation in BSE courses as a student or TA an asset
- Demonstrated experience with the use of a virtual learning platform [e.g., Zoom, WebEx]. Familiarity with MyCourses, and Powerpoint.
