ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Manager of Live-in Treatment, the Child and Youth Worker in the Live-in Treatment Program is responsible for working closely with children, youth, their families/caregivers and treatment team to foster a responsive, empathetic and nurturing therapeutic environment that addresses the social and emotional needs in a home milieu setting. This role plays an active part in contributing and participating in the planning, implementation and on-going assessment of clinical treatment plans, including assisting youth in transition into adult living, within a multidisciplinary team. The Child and Youth Worker Live in Treatment works collaboratively with various staff and departments, and upholds the Agency’s Mission, Vision, and Values, while contributing to a positive workplace environment.
Employment Status: Permanent Full-Time
Salary Range: $56,014 to $58,323
Location: 402 Bloomington Road, Aurora, ON or 968 Queensville Side Road, this position will require travel within York Region.
Hours of Work: Forty (40) hours per week, Daytime hours, shifts between 7am – 11pm
A LOOK AT YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Client Service Responsibilities

Assists in promoting and supporting the Mission, Vision, and Values statements, ensuring adherence to operational and service policies and procedures while maintaining ethical conduct.

Demonstrates a strong understanding of ethical behaviour and professional conduct, including contributing to ensuring ethical standards are upheld and participation in quality improvement standards.

Develops positive rapport with clients in the program to create psychological safety and trust through relationship-building activities and observation of the client’s physical and emotional well-being.
-
Ensures client safety by following Crisis Intervention guidelines for crisis prevention and de-escalation, following agency policies and procedures.
-
Participates in the assessment of new clients, review of admission documents, preliminary briefings and support in assisting in the preparations from admission within a multidisciplinary team.
-
Collaborates with colleagues to provide daily activities, routines, and behavioural support that is both developmentally and clinically appropriate for children in the program based on client needs.
-
Maintains the cleanliness, organization, and upkeep of the living space, specifically client rooms, bathrooms, grounds and common spaces.

Intervenes physically in crisis situations to reduce harm to the client, self or others in accordance with the principles and methods of the agency approved crisis intervention model
-
Facilitates therapeutic and treatment group meetings, including regular house meetings to obtain client feedback and to address concerns following agency-approved models.

Attends and participates in team meetings and discussions on client cases, treatment plans and process with a multidisciplinary team.

Provides client transportation to healthcare appointments and home visits as required.

Prepares written documentation as required by internal policies and procedures and external partner requirements such as completing checklists for specific areas including but not limited to; meal planning and preparation, food ordering, laundry and cleaning.

Actively reports serious occurrences, including daily reporting and medication administration. Works closely with the Manager to co-develop, implement and track treatment interventions, including reporting intervention outcomes.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Actively participates in licensing and accreditation processes, including annual Ministry licensing review and renewal.
- Maintains a system of documentation and reporting that is consistent with quality assurance standards and procedures, licensing, accreditation and best practices.
- Ensures client files are maintained in accordance with quality assurance standards and procedures, licensing, accreditation and best practices.
- Supports the quality assurance program, evaluation systems and research activities as needed.
- Works with Human Resources to ensure memberships, licenses, background checks and certifications are up to date via submission of required documents on ADP.
- Participates in regular supervision with the Manager to engage in ongoing professional development.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Builds and maintains interactions with colleagues focused on individual, team and organization success.
- Performs work in a safe manner and adheres to the established health and safety measures of the organization.
- Actively supports Equity, Diversity and Inclusion drivers, including fostering a welcoming and safe space, where people can expect to be treated fairly, equitably and in a culturally responsive way.
- Attends and participates in required training and meetings.
- May be required to drive clients and supplies in the agency vehicle.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Completion of a post-secondary education in Child and Youth Care, Social Work or related field.
- First Nation, Inuit or Metis (FNIM Elder, Knowledge Keeper, Healer, Medicine Person, Cultural Person with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a milieu setting.
- Experience utilizing a variety of interventions and skilled in milieu counselling, assessment and group work.
- Achieves and maintains certification in agency approved Crisis Intervention methodology.
- Knowledge of child and youth mental health legislation and regulations, including knowledge of mental health barriers, behaviours and supports required to effectively support children and youth in a milieu setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including editing skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to liaison and build positive relationships with agency internal services, clients and external partners.
- Ability to demonstrate sound decision-making in an intensive environment.
- Exhibits strong observation and attention to detail skills related to client mental status, crisis prevention and in-moment client needs.
- Employs emotional intelligence to manage and co-regulate self and client during intensive situations.
- Competent in trauma-informed practice, child development, and child and youth care relational practice.
- Demonstrates knowledge of youth transition to adult living (semi-independent or independent).
- Demonstrate versatility in the ability to work independently and collaboratively to support agency and program goals.
- Competence in modelling professionalism and maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational, solution-based problem-solving and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations.
- Available to work flexible hours within a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) days a week operation.
- Functional technological skills (e.g., Office 365, MS Office, SharePoint, software applications).
- Awareness and appreciation for the dynamics of equity issues (diversity, equity and inclusion), especially as it relates to gender, ethnicity, race, and economic status.
- Identification with the strategic mission, vision and values of the organization including inclusion, collaboration, people centred, knowledgeable and courageous.
- Driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract, including proof of automobile insurance and letter of experience from the individual’s insurance company.
- Must possess a satisfactory Broad Record Check.
