The Surrey School District invites applications from outstanding educational leaders for the position of District Principal, Alternate Education and Summer Learning.
The District Principal is an integral member of the district education leadership team, which includes the superintendent, assistant superintendents, directors of instruction, and district principals. The team has overall responsibility for supporting success for all students and implementing our district vision – .
Surrey Schools is the largest BC school district and the second-largest employer in Surrey. Surrey Schools provides quality education to over 86,000 students with 130 schools sites and other learning facilities, offering a broad range of innovative programs and services to support the learning of our students. The Surrey School District team of approximately 13,000 employees works tirelessly every day to ensure that children are getting the best start they can, providing the preparation to be our leaders of tomorrow.
Our student body reflects a rich tapestry of cultures with over 60% of our total student population speaking a language other than English . We also serve the single largest population of Indigenous students in BC. Surrey has a deep and rich culture of innovation and inquiry, and while we serve a large urban centre, we also have small schools in agricultural areas. The Surrey School District invites applications from outstanding educational leaders for the position of District Principal Alternate Education and Summer Learning of who will lead a portfolio that includes Education Services School, Learning Centres, HOPE programs, Summer Learning and other duties within the continuous learning department.
A belief in success for all learners, and a genuine appreciation and passion for supporting students with exceptional learning needs is essential. The qualifications required for selection include a minimum of a Master’s degree along with significant school leadership experience.
Applicants for the District Principal position will have demonstrated:
- a deep commitment to inclusion, equity, truth and reconciliation;
- an understanding of how to support learners with diverse needs and their families, including the implementation of universal design for learning
- extensive knowledge of effective practices and varied experiences working with learners in alternate or alternative programs, their families and outside agencies;
- ability to lead, promote and develop community connections, collaboration and networks;
- superior interpersonal communications skills and relational competencies;
- a focus on results-oriented and evidence-informed practice;
- integrity, collaboration, and a commitment to on-going professional learning;
- inclusive leadership that is based on transparency, cultivates team-work and trust, and values diverse points of view;
- successful experience with budget management, school organization, Ministry of Education & Child Care compliance expectations;
- ability to work under pressure and navigate situations involving competing interests; and
- a passionate commitment to making a difference in the lives of all learners.
Note: This position will be for a two-year appointment and is open to internal and external candidates. Upon completion of the appointment, the candidate will transfer to a school-based leadership assignment in the district.
The qualifications required for selection to a position of principal include a TQS recognized masters degree. The salary range for this position is $162,260 - $170,955. Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and internal equity considerations.
